PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wladimir Yaroslev (ranked 604 p4p, 36 weight class) and Jim Bob McDonald (ranked 253 p4p, 16 weight class). Yaroslev comes to the cage accompanied by Man with a Plan. McDonald has chosen Ray Wylie Hubbard - Redneck Mother as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Wladimir Yaroslev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Bob McDonald!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Darius Henderson and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDonald scores with the left hand. Yaroslev knows he should have avoided that one.


It looks like Wladimir Yaroslev has been cut.
Yaroslev fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Yaroslev moves forwards but McDonald connects with a nice, crisp jab.
McDonald slaps away a takedown attempt from Yaroslev, before circling back to the center of the mat.
McDonald stuns Yaroslev with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Yaroslev connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Yaroslev fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McDonald avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wladimir Yaroslev. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yaroslev closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming McDonald to the mat! McDonald manages to get full guard.
McDonald is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McDonald slips a nice elbow through Yaroslev's hands, connecting with Yaroslev's forehead.
McDonald throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Yaroslev is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of McDonald's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take McDonald's back!
Yaroslev is trying to stick to McDonald's back but McDonald is turning into Yaroslev. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Yaroslev's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by McDonald.
McDonald tries to free his leg and advance position but Yaroslev is retaining full guard.

Yaroslev keeping moving, preventing McDonald from controlling successfully.
Yaroslev will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
McDonald distracts Yaroslev with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
McDonald must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Yaroslev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McDonald doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McDonald manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
McDonald throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Yaroslev works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now McDonald is on top in guard.

Yaroslev bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McDonald's guard.

and McDonald counters with a crisp right hand that drops Yaroslev! McDonald lets Yaroslev back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


Yaroslev is rocked!
McDonald cracks Yaroslev with a left hook right on the temple and Yaroslev goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! McDonald lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Yaroslev is OK!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jim Bob McDonald!
A very excited looking Jim Bob McDonald made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
The defeated Wladimir Yaroslev had this to say: 'I'm so pissed at myself right now. I should have been able to beat him. I guess I go back and try to do better next time.'.
