Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Killa Myke! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Souza! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Alexandre Firmino and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Souza misses with a wild combination.
Myke half committed to a counter leg kick. Souza fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Souza shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Myke eats them both and turns towards Souza to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Thud! ouch! good body kick from Souza - that will leave a mark!
Souza throws a right and a left that Myke avoids nicely. Myke shoots in and gets a takedown into Souza's guard. Myke slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Souza really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Myke. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Myke drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Myke jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Myke postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Souza wants to get back to his feet but Myke passes into half guard.
Myke is figuring out what he wants to do next. Myke gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Souza gets caught napping as Myke dives in and scores a takedown. Souza manages to retain guard. Myke is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Myke stands and throws Souza's legs to the side, diving into side control. Myke is trying to get an arm triangle but Souza is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Myke tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Myke controls the position from side control. Myke stands up. Myke shoots for a takedown but Souza saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Myke gets a takedown into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Souza is trying to stand up here but Myke is controlling him well. Still in half guard, Myke seems content to control. Myke is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Souza has managed to free his arm - good work. Myke is taking a breather. Souza says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Myke seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Souza is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
