Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dean Ambrose! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Abraham Willson! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Willson has his takedown stuffed and Ambrose connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Ambrose shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Willson pinned against the cage. Willson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Ambrose keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Willson shoots in for a takedown but Ambrose shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Dean Ambrose has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Abraham Willson. Ambrose drives through and clinches with Willson against the cage.
Ambrose slowing the pace effectively. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ambrose gets underhooks to prevent Willson's takedown attempt.
A frustrated look appears on Willson's face as he tries to break the clinch. Ambrose decides to pull guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ambrose is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ambrose trying to control the position.
Ambrose keeping moving, preventing Willson from controlling successfully. Willson preventing the sweep. Willson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Willson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Willson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ambrose is keeping the position for now. Ambrose is looking to sweep but instead, Willson has passed into half guard.
Ambrose has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Willson is working away from the top position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Ambrose avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Willson. Willson is looking to advance position but Ambrose won't allow it. Ambrose is looking to escape. Ambrose is doing well to control the position and prevent Willson from advancing to side control. Willson wants to control but Ambrose is keeping him busy.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Willson misses with a double jab
and Ambrose counters by clinching up. Willson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Willson tries to pull guard but Ambrose forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Ambrose is pressed up against the cage. Willson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Ambrose down to the mat. Ambrose avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Ambrose shoots in and drives through. Willson sprawls well. Ambrose stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ambrose wants it to stay on the feet. Willson throws a right hand that Ambrose ducks under and follows up with a left that Ambrose also avoids with ease. Ambrose changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Ambrose keeps the fight on the outside. Ambrose thinks about countering with a body kick. Willson shoots in but no luck this time. Ambrose looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Ambrose clinches up against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ambrose is pushing Willson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Ambrose will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Willson up against the cage. Willson tries to pull guard but Ambrose forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Willson looking for a takedown. Ambrose goes for a takedown in the clinch but Willson prevents it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Ambrose changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Willson fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Ambrose fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Willson to the ground. Ambrose is now in Willson's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dean Ambrose dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Willson. Ambrose closes the distance and clinches. Ambrose pulls Willson into guard.
Willson controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Ambrose working a defensive guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Willson wants to stand but Ambrose is controlling his posture from full guard. Willson stays in close to Ambrose's body and controls the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ambrose is looking to stand up but Willson isn't so interested in that idea. Willson is looking to advance position but Ambrose has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Willson is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Willson tries to get back to half guard but can't. Willson bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ambrose has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Willson has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Ambrose wants a takedown.
Willson has Ambrose pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ambrose manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Willson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ambrose gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Dean Ambrose has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Abraham Willson. Ambrose is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Willson pulls him back up using the underhooks. Willson is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Ambrose jumps guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Willson's corner is telling him to maintain position. Willson scoring with punches to the head and body. Willson throwing strikes but missing. Willson wants to control from the top but Ambrose keeps moving. Willson looking to pass the guard. Willson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Ambrose is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Willson has just dragged him back down to the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Ambrose tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Ambrose is squirming around, avoiding Willson's attempts to control the action. Willson throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Willson misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Willson is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Willson extends the arm and Ambrose is forced to tap!
