PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Riley Abbott (ranked 7549 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Josefi (ranked 7351 p4p, 0 weight class). Josefi comes into a darkened arena with his song building. I beat my dick kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Riley Abbott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Terry Josefi!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Ben Watson and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Abbott tries to sprawl but Josefi drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Abbott missing with punches from the bottom.

Josefi is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Abbott sees it coming and defends easily.
Josefi wants to free his trapped foot but Abbott is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Josefi prevents Abbott from standing back up.

Josefi is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Abbott defends it well.
Abbott throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Abbott trying to hold on to Josefi's head to control him but Josefi postures up.
Abbott misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Josefi is pressing down on Abbott's thigh, looking to free his foot. Abbott is holding on for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Josefi blocks the strikes from Abbott.
Abbott trying to control but Josefi postures up.
Josefi is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Josefi wants to pass to mount but Abbott is defending the position.
Josefi stops Abbott from getting back to his feet.
Josefi slips a nice elbow through Abbott's hands, connecting with Abbott's forehead.

Josefi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Josefi works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Abbott swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Josefi cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Josefi moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Abbott has worked his arm free - good work by Abbott!

Josefi is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Abbott is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Josefi is chipping away with strikes.

Josefi is putting a hurting on Abbott here, landing some big shots from side control.


Abbott is rocked!

Josefi goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Abbott has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Josefi but great work by Abbott.
Josefi wants to get back to his feet.

Abbott wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Josefi, who protects the arm well.
Josefi sneaks back into half guard.
Josefi is controlling Abbott's trapped leg to prevent Abbott from advancing to side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Abbott will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Josefi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Abbott pulls his head out easily.
Abbott thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Josefi's head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Abbott looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Josefi with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Terry Josefi dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Josefi clinches with his opponent.
Abbott has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Josefi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Josefi gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Abbott.

Josefi has Abbott pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Josefi pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Abbott tumbling to the mat - Josefi dives into Abbott's guard.
Josefi controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Josefi pushes down on Abbott's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Abbott is looking to control Josefi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Abbott avoid being mounted?
Josefi passes to full mount!
Josefi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Abbott has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Josefi is looking for the choke from the back position but Abbott is controlling his hands well.
Abbott tries to escape but Josefi has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Abbott wants to get back to his feet.

Josefi looking to break Abbott's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Abbott remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Josefi will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Josefi is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Abbott with him. Abbott is trying to defend but Josefi has an arm under the chin now! Abbott grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Terry Josefi!
Post fight, Terry Josefi stared into the camera and said 'Damn it feels good to be a gangster'.
