PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Atkinson (ranked 5554 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonardo Yoshi (ranked 5552 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Atkinson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Leonardo Yoshi!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Yoshi looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Atkinson is trying to control but can't.
Atkinson wants to get back to his feet.
Yoshi takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Yoshi is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Atkinson to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Yoshi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Atkinson looking for a sweep. Not yet Atkinson, not yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Atkinson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Yoshi controls the pace.
It looks like Yoshi might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Atkinson is trying to control the position but Yoshi postures up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Atkinson connects with a right hand. Yoshi shakes it off.

Atkinson throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Yoshi is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Yoshi advances position into side control!

Atkinson is being controlled here.
Yoshi is continuing to stall.
Atkinson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Atkinson wants to control but Yoshi is keeping busy.

Atkinson is defending against the submission attempts here by Yoshi.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Yoshi is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Atkinson defends it well.
Atkinson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Atkinson.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Yoshi is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leonardo Yoshi dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Atkinson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Who's going to make the next move?
Yoshi gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Atkinson is trying to control. Yoshi wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Atkinson is just content to waste time from the top position. Yoshi takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Atkinson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Yoshi is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Yoshi has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Atkinson throws a strike but Yoshi rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Yoshi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Atkinson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Yoshi engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Atkinson is trying to hold Yoshi in close to prevent damage but Yoshi has managed to pass into half guard.
Yoshi takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Yoshi passes the guard and advances to mount!
Atkinson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Atkinson tries to hold on but Yoshi postures up.

Yoshi looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Yoshi tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Yoshi has hold of Atkinson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Atkinson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Yoshi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Atkinson tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Atkinson tries to lock up and control but Yoshi gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Yoshi content just to control the position here.
Atkinson has given up his back. Will we see Yoshi going for some submissions?

Yoshi is cranking Atkinson's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Atkinson! He's tightened the choke and Atkinson is tapping out!
