PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Yung (ranked 2280 p4p, 270 weight class) and Ray Malenko (ranked 949 p4p, 125 weight class). Yung comes to the cage accompanied by 陳小春 - 亂世巨星. Ray Malenko is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Yung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 18 - 0, fighting out of London, Ray Malenko!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malenko tries to bum rush Yung with a series of wild strikes but Yung uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Yung throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Malenko scores with a jab. Yung acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
A jab from Malenko misses.
Yung throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Yung misses with a jab to the body
and Yung takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Yung pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Malenko! But no joy.
Malenko moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.


Yung is rocked!
Yung throws a big shot that misses.
Yung missing with a left hand there. Malenko was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Malenko keeps the fight on the outside.
Yung has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Talu's Boxing Club in the buildup to the fight.
Yung misses with a hook to the body
and Malenko counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Yung steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Malenko.
Yung lands a jab to Malenko's midsection.
Yung throws a sloppy body shot
and Malenko counters with a stiff right hand.
Oh Yung is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Yung gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Malenko to counter with a crisp jab.
Yung keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Yung seems to have got his legs back now.
Yung misses with a leg kick
and Malenko counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Yung throws a poor cross that misses
enabling Malenko to counter with a crisp jab.
Nice defenses there by Malenko.
Yung scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Yung with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Yung jabs Malenko to the body, keeping him at a distance.
David Yung seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice uppercut lands for Yung. That snapped Malenko's head back.
Jab, jab by Malenko - just one landing.
Malenko keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A little jabbing left from Malenko on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Yung lands a nice shot that snaps Malenko's head back.
Yung throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Yung lands with a cross.
Yung misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Malenko.
Yung misses the shot to the body.
Malenko connects with a good right hand that stumbles Yung. Yung circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Malenko checks a leg kick.
Yung ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Malenko moves away.
Malenko throws out a counter right but Yung avoids it with no problem.
Yung throws a head kick that misses.
Malenko looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Yung lands a slapping body shot.

Malenko closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Malenko lands in his opponent's guard.
Yung wants to sweep but no luck.
Yung not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yung looking to hit a scissor sweep but Malenko is one step ahead there.
Yung is trying to keep Malenko in close.
Malenko wants to control from the top but Yung keeps moving.
Yung has Malenko pulled in close to control his posture.

Yung looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Yung is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Malenko wants to control from the top but Yung keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Malenko's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Malenko tries to free his leg and advance position but Yung is retaining full guard.
Yung pulls Malenko in close to prevent any damage.
Malenko wants to control from the top but Yung keeps moving.
Malenko landing with the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yung working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Malenko doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Yung is tightening it up a little... Malenko has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Malenko reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Malenko taps out! Nice BJJ there by Yung!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). David Yung!
