Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Conor McGregor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alex Arroyo! The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Arroyo throws a right and a left that both miss. Arroyo thuds his shin into the meat of McGregor's side. McGregor has taken the fight to the clinch.
McGregor is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. McGregor tries to pull guard but Arroyo won't allow it.
Arroyo tries to break the clinch but McGregor is controlling the position. Arroyo breaks from the clinch.
Arroyo throws a sloppy head kick and McGregor moves out of range easily. Arroyo gets tackled into the cage by McGregor. McGregor maintains the clinch. McGregor misses with a knee to the head. Arroyo wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A frustrated look appears on Arroyo's face as he tries to break the clinch. Arroyo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Arroyo connects with a leg kick. McGregor looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Arroyo looks to land a combination but McGregor avoids it well. A solid body kick from Arroyo.
That's one minute gone in the round. Arroyo connects with a high kick. No joy there for Arroyo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Arroyo misses with a double jab.
As Arroyo looks to move away, McGregor throws a big counter combo but Arroyo just gets out of the way. A punch combination from McGregor misses. McGregor scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Arroyo is positioning himself to get back to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Arroyo gets back to half guard. Arroyo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McGregor is working away from the top position though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Arroyo looking for submissions off his back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McGregor looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Arroyo wants to control but McGregor is keeping busy and won't allow it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Arroyo tries to kick McGregor off but McGregor keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Arroyo looking for submissions off his back. Arroyo makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Arroyo throws a quick head kick that skims the top of McGregor's head.
McGregor is rocked! Alex Arroyo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. OH! McGregor has been rocked by a huge right hand and is in deep trouble! Arroyo smells blood and charges in for the finish! Arroyo unloads a vicious overhand right and connects to the jaw of McGregor sending him face first to the canvas! Unbelievable!
