Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marilson Coutinho! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Baron Geisler! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Geisler bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Coutinho throws a body punch but Geisler moves out of range. Coutinho dives in for a single leg takedown but Geisler sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Geisler stuffs the takedown attempt from Coutinho. Coutinho gets slowly back to his feet. Geisler thuds his right hand into Coutinho's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
It looks like Marilson Coutinho has been cut. Coutinho throws a body shot but no joy. Geisler's jab looks to have found its range, popping Coutinho under the eye. Geisler misses with a straight right. Geisler takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Geisler is looking to chop away at Coutinho's legs. Geisler is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Geisler pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Geisler lands with a nice body punch. Geisler connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Coutinho throws the left hand but Geisler avoids the punch easily. Geisler gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Coutinho trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Geisler working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Coutinho. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Geisler keeping full guard, as Coutinho tries to pass. Coutinho is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Geisler told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Coutinho drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Coutinho jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Coutinho throwing strikes but missing. Coutinho sitting in guard, not really doing much. Coutinho postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Geisler is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Coutinho, into his guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Coutinho is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Coutinho throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Coutinho looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Geisler is defending well. Coutinho quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Geisler has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Coutinho celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
