PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alonzo Trotter (ranked 1614 p4p, 193 weight class) and Rip Snorten (ranked 1723 p4p, 202 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Snorten's choice of entrance music: Sound of Silence. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alonzo Trotter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Rip Snorten!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Patrick Alders and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Trotter.
Snorten waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Trotter.
Trotter was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Snorten getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Trotter shoots in but Snorten avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Snorten throws a lazy right hand but Trotter sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Trotter feinted with a counter takedown.
Trotter slips a jab from Snorten.
Snorten throws a jab but it's blocked by Trotter.
Trotter wants to slow Snorten down by chopping away at his legs.
Snorten throws a series of punches but Trotter moves out of range.
Trotter swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Snorten scores with a nice strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Trotter tries to close the distance and clinch but Snorten swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Trotter closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Trotter has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Midnight MMA in the buildup to the fight.
Trotter walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Snorten uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Trotter.
Trotter tries to clinch up but Snorten circles away and keeps his distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Snorten throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Trotter sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Trotter moves out of range of the strikes.
Snorten lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Snorten ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Trotter moves away.

Trotter has Snorten up against the cage in a clinch.

Trotter breaks from the clinch.
Trotter throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Snorten stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Trotter throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Snorten counters with an outside leg kick.
Trotter takes one to the chin there.
Snorten misses with a right hand
and Trotter counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

and Trotter moves into the clinch.

Trotter breaks the clinch.
Snorten has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Snorten cracks a nice hook into Trotter's ribs.
Snorten throws a hook but Trotter blocks it.
Snorten might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Snorten fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Trotter tries to close the distance and clinch up but Snorten swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Trotter misses with a body shot.
Trotter misses with a looping left.
Trotter moves out of range of the strikes.
Snorten buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Trotter blocks a jab.
Trotter throws a right hand that misses
and Snorten counters with a nice low kick that buckles Trotter's knee momentarily.
Trotter fails with a takedown attempt.
It seemed like Snorten was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Trotter takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Snorten finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Trotter darts in and clinches Snorten up against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Trotter struggles to land a body shot inside as Snorten controls his hands.
Snorten lands a nice uppercut.
Snorten lands a left hand that snaps the head of Trotter backwards.
Trotter blocks an uppercut.
Snorten misses with a hook from the clinch.

Trotter breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Trotter moves out of range as Snorten strikes.
A combination from Snorten does no damage.

Trotter closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Snorten's guard.
Snorten lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Trotter looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Trotter throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Snorten stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Trotter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Trotter throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Snorten postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Trotter trying to keep a closed guard but Snorten is proving a slippery customer.
Trotter throwing rabbit punches from the bottom - showing the judges that he's keeping busy.
Snorten stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Trotter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Snorten throws a strike but Trotter rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Snorten is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Trotter avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Snorten.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Snorten connects with a nice short shot to Trotter's temple.
Snorten looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Snorten lands with a punch from half guard.
Snorten slips a nice elbow through Trotter's hands, connecting with Trotter's forehead.
Snorten seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Trotter regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Snorten.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rip Snorten dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Trotter lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Snorten connects with a leg kick. Trotter looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Trotter avoids the body shot from Snorten.
Nice shot by Snorten.
Snorten is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Trotter.
Snorten thuds a left hand into Trotter's body.
Rip Snorten seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Snorten lands with an overhand left.


Trotter is rocked!
Snorten lands a big uppercut and this one is all over! His foe lies motionless on the canvas - a massive one punch knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Rip Snorten!
Rip Snorten really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that KOMBAT KLOTHING logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
The defeated Alonzo Trotter had this to say: 'Sorry dudes'.
