PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mohammed Sleiman (ranked 6010 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Wagner (ranked 7877 p4p, 0 weight class). Wagner has chosen Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Jack Wagner is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mohammed Sleiman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jack Wagner! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Donald Grub and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wagner dives in for a single leg takedown but Sleiman sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Sleiman appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Excellent takedown into side control there by Sleiman. Wagner is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Wagner holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wagner struggling a bit here. Sleiman just content to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wagner can't do much from the bottom here. Sleiman tries for a kimura but Wagner is defending well. Sleiman working away. Sleiman wants to stand but Wagner is controlling his arm. Sleiman wants to control but Wagner is keeping him busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Sleiman in side control, just content to control the action for now. Wagner is looking for a sweep.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Sleiman shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Wagner defends it nicely. Wagner pivots, looking for a leg kick but Sleiman is out of range and Wagner settles back down.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A nice combination there by Sleiman.
A punch combination from Wagner misses. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Wagner. Wagner closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Sleiman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Wagner is looking to clinch. Sleiman changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Nice sprawl there from Sleiman as Wagner shoots in. Mohammed Sleiman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Wagner. Sleiman will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Wagner darts in looking for a takedown but Sleiman gets double underhooks and turns Wagner into the cage. Sleiman throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sleiman moves into range and clinches up with Wagner. Sleiman wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Wagner creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Sleiman is trying to trip Wagner. He has hold of a leg but Wagner is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Sleiman persists though and gets the takedown into guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Wagner wants to hit a switch here but Sleiman passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Wagner there! Wagner working to try and regain half guard.
Wagner looks winded! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Sleiman controlling the pace for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mohammed Sleiman dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Sleiman clinches with his opponent.
Sleiman is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wagner can do to turn this around? Wagner tries to throw a body punch but Sleiman avoids it by throwing Wagner back against the cage. Wagner using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Sleiman has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Sleiman breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wagner shoots in looking for a takedown but Sleiman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wagner's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. A head kick misses from Sleiman. Nice takedown defense from Sleiman. No joy for Wagner on that attempt. Wagner avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sleiman throws a sloppy head kick and Wagner counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Mohammed Sleiman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Wagner is stalling here. Sleiman is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Wagner seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Sleiman has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Sleiman wants to stand but Wagner has his arm trapped.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sleiman working away. Sleiman controls the position. Sleiman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Sleiman scoring with punches and elbows. Sleiman is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wagner knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Sleiman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wagner keeps working. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Wagner is trying to control Sleiman's posture but Sleiman avoids it. Sleiman wants to control but Wagner is keeping him busy. Wagner is looking to regain half guard here but Sleiman keeps moving and retains side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wagner tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Sleiman presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Wagner keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sleiman has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Wagner's face.
Sleiman controlling the position easily from mount. Sleiman lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wagner looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Wagner trying to control the position but Sleiman manages to sink in the hooks. I really don't envy Wagner right now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sleiman is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Wagner. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped. Sleiman lands a punch to the side of the head from the back. Wagner won't enjoy being in this position. Sleiman looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Wagner is tapping - it's over boys! Sleiman picks up the submission victory!
