Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Caio Bottura (ranked 698 p4p, 85 weight class) and Gary Day (ranked 1617 p4p, 196 weight class). Bottura's entrance music is Face The Pain. A fine choice. Day has chosen Last minute - Great day to choke you out as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Caio Bottura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 15 - 3, fighting out of Helsinki, Gary Day!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Patrick Alders and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bottura lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Day tests Bottura's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Day fails to land the takedown.
Bottura tries a head kick but it misses.
Day paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Bottura walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Day.

We've been hearing good reports from Bottura's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Day has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bottura is working away from the top position though.

Day is trying to maintain the position but Bottura is very close to passing his half guard.
Bottura is looking to advance position but Day won't allow it.

Bottura is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Day is trying to control the position but Bottura postures up.
Bottura loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Bottura postures up in Day's guard and throws a big left but Day blocks it.
Bottura is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bottura takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Day feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Botturas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Bottura uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Bottura fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Day is out of range.
Day throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Gary Day seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bottura fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Day looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bottura on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Bottura lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Day will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Bottura takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Day lands a jab to Bottura's midsection.

Bottura stuns Day with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Day keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Day uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Bottura.

Day throws a sloppy head kick
and Bottura cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Day steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Bottura.
Bottura connects with a right hand. Day shakes it off.
The crowd cheers as Bottura lands an impressive looking overhand right. Day doesn't seem phased though.
Bottura looks to land a combination but Day avoids it well.
Day throws out a loose jab but Bottura uses good head movement to avoid it.
Bottura appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Day takes one on the button.
Day shoots in but no luck this time.
Day misses with a hook
and Bottura counters with a nice low kick that buckles Day's knee momentarily.
Bottura ducks under a wild hook from Day.
A left and a right from Bottura both land. Nice combination.

and Day connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Day has his takedown stuffed
and Bottura counters with a low kick, right behind Day 's knee.
Caio Bottura is winning the standup battle so far.
Bottura swings for the body but Day moves out of range.
Bottura lands a leg kick that knocks Day off balance momentarily.
Day throws a hook but Bottura blocks it.
Bottura is looking to wear down Day with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Bottura looks to score with a jab to the body but Day is just out of range.
Bottura moves out of range as Day strikes.
Day fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Day blocks a low kick nicely.
Day misses with a double jab
and Bottura counters with a stiff right hand.
Bottura closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Day swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Day scores with a nice body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Caio Bottura dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Day closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Day lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bottura is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Bottura is looking to cinch up a triangle. Day throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Bottura's body to avoid the submission. Bottura has instead reached around Day's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Bottura arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Caio Bottura!
Our winner, Caio Bottura, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
