PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Callum Pagnozzi (ranked 601 p4p, 74 weight class) and Tony O Rangers (ranked 761 p4p, 96 weight class). O Rangers is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Hold on to you. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 16 - 5, fighting out of London, Callum Pagnozzi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 11 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Tony O Rangers!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pagnozzi avoids the body shot from O Rangers.
Pagnozzi is looking for a counter combo.
O Rangers avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
O Rangers staying out of range there.
Pagnozzi throws an off balance right hand
and O Rangers counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
O Rangers looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pagnozzi is fending him off so far but O Rangers persists. Nope, Pagnozzi circles away and we're back to standing.
Pagnozzi finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
O Rangers sizes up Pagnozzi with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
O Rangers walks forward, straight into a front kick from Pagnozzi.
O Rangers looks to land a left hand but Pagnozzi moved out of range nicely.
Pagnozzi lands a high kick!
O Rangers misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Pagnozzi counters with a straight right hand.
A combination from O Rangers does no damage.
Pagnozzi throwing a counter right hand but O Rangers manages to avoid it.
Pagnozzi throws a solid leg kick but O Rangers takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Pagnozzi.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pagnozzi lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Pagnozzi throws a body punch but O Rangers moves out of range.
O Rangers with the counter takedown but Pagnozzi avoids it easily.
Tony O Rangers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pagnozzi swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
O Rangers lands a nice shot to the body.
O Rangers cracks Pagnozzi with an open hand slap.
O Rangers shoots in looking for a takedown but Pagnozzi manages to keep the fight standing, pushing O Rangers's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
O Rangers throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
An attempted straight right counter from Pagnozzi misses the target.
Pagnozzi swings for the body but O Rangers moves out of range.
O Rangers lands a jab to Pagnozzi's midsection.
O Rangers takes a swing at Pagnozzi's ribcage but misses.
Pagnozzi motions for O Rangers to come forward. Pagnozzi throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

and O Rangers counters with a shoot takedown. Pagnozzi fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Pagnozzi wants to sweep here but O Rangers controlling him for the moment.

O Rangers postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Pagnozzi is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Pagnozzi preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
O Rangers trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
O Rangers is stalling in the full guard.
Pagnozzi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
O Rangers trying to control but Pagnozzi is working from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A jab from Pagnozzi finds it's way through O Rangers's defenses.

O Rangers closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Pagnozzi quickly recovers to half guard.
O Rangers is looking to take a break and control but Pagnozzi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pagnozzi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. O Rangers is working away from the top position though.

O Rangers seems to be working for a kimura but Pagnozzi defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
O Rangers is trying to control. Pagnozzi wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
O Rangers seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
O Rangers throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

O Rangers is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Pagnozzi wants to get back to full guard.
O Rangers looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Pagnozzi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. O Rangers is working away from the top position though.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. O Rangers connects with a nice short shot to Pagnozzi's temple.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tony O Rangers will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



O Rangers fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Pagnozzi sprawls well initially but O Rangers persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Pagnozzi is looking to control O Rangers's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pagnozzi avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pagnozzi is concentrating on defense, preventing O Rangers from advancing position.
Pagnozzi is not content to let O Rangers control the position.
Pagnozzi is looking for a sweep. O Rangers is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Tony O Rangers has got the better of the ground game so far.
O Rangers tries to pass to full mount but Pagnozzi defends it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
O Rangers stalling away here and it's allowed Pagnozzi to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
O Rangers pushes down on Pagnozzi's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Pagnozzi is in trouble now - O Rangers has advanced to mount!
Pagnozzi wants to hold on but O Rangers pushes him away.

O Rangers wants to control the pace but Pagnozzi is squirming around nicely.
O Rangers controlling from the full mount.
O Rangers has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at mickeyharts the greatest . Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Pagnozzi is working to get back to half guard.
Pagnozzi is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
O Rangers fails to move to back control.
O Rangers trying to control but Pagnozzi is having none of it.

O Rangers can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pagnozzi is looking to escape.
O Rangers throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Pagnozzi because O Rangers loaded up on that one.
O Rangers fails to advance to Pagnozzi's back.
Pagnozzi wants to control but O Rangers is having none of it.
O Rangers trying to control but Pagnozzi is having none of it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
O Rangers landing shots from mount.

O Rangers fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
O Rangers controlling from the full mount.
Pagnozzi tries to lock up and control but O Rangers gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
O Rangers can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pagnozzi is looking to escape.
Pagnozzi is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony O Rangers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

O Rangers lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pagnozzi bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in O Rangers's guard.

O Rangers is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

O Rangers lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Tony O Rangers is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
O Rangers stays in close to Pagnozzi's body and controls the position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pagnozzi is on top in guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pagnozzi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
O Rangers has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Pagnozzi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. O Rangers swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
O Rangers is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Pagnozzi tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
O Rangers moves in looking to clinch but Pagnozzi pushes him off.
Pagnozzi is looking to counter punch.
Pagnozzi misses with a body shot.

and Pagnozzi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Callum Pagnozzi.
I think O Rangers has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
