PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frank Lister (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Bourdeau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bourdeau has chosen nothin as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Lister!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andrew Bourdeau!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Lou da Vinci and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bourdeau throws a right hand that Lister ducks under and follows up with a left that Lister also avoids with ease.
Bourdeau circles away from the clinch attempt.
Bourdeau fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Lister tries to clinch but Bourdeau is having none of it.
Lister really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Bourdeau drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Bourdeau avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Bourdeau wants to pass the guard but Lister is keeping the position.

Lister has his foot on Bourdeau's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bourdeau works his way back into a safe position though.
Bourdeau won't allow Lister to sweep him here.

Lister has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bourdeau can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bourdeau tries to stand but Lister is controlling from the bottom.

Bourdeau decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Bourdeau stuffs the takedown.

Bourdeau feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lister is breathing heavily.
Lister throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Lister is looking for a sweep. Bourdeau is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bourdeau wants to pass the guard but Lister is defending well.

Bourdeau stands up out of the half guard.
Bourdeau throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Bourdeau clinches up against the cage.
Bourdeau lands a left hand that snaps the head of Lister backwards.

Bourdeau breaks the clinch.

Bourdeau rushes Lister and presses him up against the cage.

Bourdeau lands with a light punch inside.

Bourdeau has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Lister is trying to keep an underhook but Bourdeau manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Bourdeau really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lister. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lister tries to reverse the position but Bourdeau maintains control.
Bourdeau has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Lister's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Bourdeau lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

A nice right hand lands inside from Bourdeau.

Bourdeau bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Lister is looking to regain half guard here but Bourdeau keeps moving and retains side control.

Bourdeau has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Bourdeau misses with a double jab.
Frank Lister is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bourdeau rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lister moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Bourdeau throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lister's waist but Lister gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bourdeau off to one side.

Lister sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Lister tries to hold on but Bourdeau postures up.

Bourdeau is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Lister can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lister can't escape the position.
Bourdeau controlling his opponent.
Lister tries to reverse the position but Bourdeau maintains control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andrew Bourdeau showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Bourdeau drives through and clinches with Lister against the cage.
Bourdeau makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Bourdeau digs a right hand into Lister's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Lister's gas tank.

Bourdeau is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Lister gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Bourdeau throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Lister takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Bourdeau digs a right hand underneath Lister's ribcage. Lister let out a lung full of air as it connected.
A nice left hand lands by Bourdeau.

Bourdeau breaks the clinch.
Bourdeau misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Bourdeau scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Lister is looking to reverse the position.
Lister can't do much from the bottom here.

Bourdeau happy to just control the position for now.
Lister wants to control but Bourdeau postures up.
Lister tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Bourdeau stands up and beckons Lister to his feet.
Bourdeau looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Bourdeau throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Andrew Bourdeau seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bourdeau stalks Lister and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Lister's face. Lister staggers backwards, shaken.
Lister takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

and Bourdeau finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

and Bourdeau counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bourdeau.
Bourdeau stays in close to Lister's body and controls the position.
Lister looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Bourdeau decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Lister, up you get!
Lister is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Bourdeau.
Frank Lister has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Lister tries a body shot but Bourdeau blocks it.
Lister has had enough of the clinch but Bourdeau keeps him there for the moment.

Bourdeau breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Bourdeau gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Lister is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Bourdeau pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Bourdeau has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Lister wants to stall.

Bourdeau breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lister slips a jab and a cross from Bourdeau.
Bourdeau tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lister swivels and escapes.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lister is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Bourdeau's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bourdeau misses with the combination.
Andrew Bourdeau is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Lister takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Andrew Bourdeau comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bourdeau has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
