Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Giliardo Timotio! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Julio Patino! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Seu Braga and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Timotio stuffs the takedown. Patino drives through with a takedown into guard. Timotio has his foot on Patino's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Patino works his way back into a safe position though. Timotio is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Timotio tries to land a sweep but no joy. Patino lands a couple of decent looking shots. Patino works a leg free and moves into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Timotio blocking the ground and pound attempt from Patino. Timotio is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Patino pulls his head out easily. Patino winds up and cracks Timotio with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patino seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Ground and pound from Patino. Still in half guard, Patino seems content to control. Patino drops an elbow to the side of Timotio's head. Patino decides to return to a standing position. Patino fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Patino moves into the clinch successfully.
Patino looking for a takedown. Giliardo Timotio has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julio Patino. A body shot lands from Patino.
Timotio gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Patino.
Timotio is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Patino gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Timotio is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patino has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Timotio uses from the top position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Patino can do anything to dispel that myth. Patino working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Timotio doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Timotio manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Timotio passes easily into side control. Nice work. Timotio is working to tighten is grip on Patino's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Patino has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Timotio is really squeezing tight and eventually Patino passes out! Timotio breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
