PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ivory Moody (ranked 6888 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Tenorio (ranked 5435 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ivory Moody!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rodrigo Tenorio!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tenorio throws a head kick that misses.
Moody really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Tenorio gets a takedown into half guard.
Moody blocking the ground and pound attempt from Tenorio.
Tenorio throwing shots but Moody is blocking nicely.

Tenorio stands up from half guard.
Tenorio attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tenorio clinches up with Moody and pushes him back against the cage.
Tenorio wants to break the clinch but can't.
Moody really is a fat lump.
Tenorio throws a knee to the head but misses.
Moody goes for a takedown attempt but Tenorio pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Tenorio controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Moody throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Tenorio stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Moody moves out of range as Tenorio throws a body kick.
Moody seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Tenorio with a jab.

Tenorio closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Tenorio is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Tenorio thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Tenorio tries to pass to full mount but Moody defends it.
Tenorio not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Moody is positioning himself well to prevent Tenorio advancing to mount.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Tenorio scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Moody sneaks out the side door and pushes Tenorio away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Moody misses the shot to the body.

Tenorio gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Tenorio turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Tenorio manages to end up in side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

You can see the frustration on Moody's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Tenorio decides to stand back up. Tenorio steps back and let's Moody get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodrigo Tenorio dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Tenorio shoots in and gets a takedown into Moody's guard.

Moody is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Tenorio presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Tenorio is trying to break the clinch but Moody is controlling him.

Tenorio works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Tenorio might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Moody haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Moody is trying to control Tenorio's posture but Tenorio avoids it.

Moody manages to get back to half guard.
Tenorio passes to side control.

Tenorio working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
You can see the frustration on Moody's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sloppy strikes there by Tenorio.
Tenorio wants to lay and pray for a moment but Moody keeps working.

Tenorio stands up.
The crowd cheers as Tenorio lands an impressive looking overhand right. Moody doesn't seem phased though.

Tenorio closes the distance and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Moody is struggling to control the position.
Moody wants a takedown but no success here.
Tenorio is trying to break free.

Tenorio pulls guard.
Moody being controlled here momentarily.
Tenorio wants to sweep here but Moody controlling him for the moment.
Moody postures up.
Moody won't allow Tenorio to sweep him here.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Moody accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Tenorio has a closed guard, preventing Moody from standing up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Moody gets caught flat footed, as Tenorio shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Tenorio trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Moody throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Tenorio sitting in guard, not really doing much.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodrigo Tenorio showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Tenorio is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Moody's half guard.
Moody is trying to control but can't.
Moody wants to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tenorio is just content to waste time from the top position. Moody takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Tenorio stands up and waves to Moody to follow him.
Rodrigo Tenorio seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tenorio swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Tenorio misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Moody was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
That kick from Moody tenderised Tenorio's leg. Tenorio is trying to keep his angry face on.

Tenorio gets a clinch.
Tenorio wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Tenorio wants to break free but Moody has control.
Tenorio has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Moody tries to stall but Tenorio uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Tenorio gets through Moody's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Tenorio just leaning against Moody, taking a breather.

Moody tries to break the clinch but Tenorio is controlling the position.
Moody fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Moody turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Tenorio sneaks out the side door and pushes Moody away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Tenorio closes the distance and clinches.

Moody's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Tenorio wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Moody, who protects the arm well.
Moody might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Moody seems a little lost for a moment, as Tenorio dominates the positioning.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tenorio avoids the strikes from the bottom by Moody.
Tenorio remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Tenorio decides to stand up, so the ref orders Moody to his feet.

Tenorio closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Moody's guard.

Tenorio has gone for a leg lock! Moody slips out almost immediately though and dives into Tenorio's guard.

Rodrigo Tenorio comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Tenorio has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
