Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jan Sobieski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Daniel Booningham!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Igor Prikhodko and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sobieski throws an off balance right hand
and Booningham counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Sobieski throws a nice outside leg kick.
Booningham has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Sobieski.
Booningham thows a left - swing and a miss!
Booningham misses with a body shot.
Booningham takes a kick to the side of the head.
Sobieski moves out of range of the strikes.
Sobieski tries to counter with a takedown but Booningham is quick to defend against it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Booningham looks to score with a jab to the body but Sobieski is just out of range.
Sobieski slips a jab and a cross from Booningham.

Sobieski gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Booningham's coach down at Russian Bears Training Center was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Booningham's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Sobieski ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sobieski no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Booningham wants to stand but Sobieski has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Sobieski is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Booningham wants to get up but he can't break Sobieski's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Sobieski has his foot on Booningham's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Booningham works his way back into a safe position though.
Sobieski has a closed guard, preventing Booningham from standing up.

Booningham decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sobieski, up you get!
Booningham moves out of range of the body kick from Sobieski.
It seemed like Booningham was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
No joy there for Booningham, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sobieski lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Booningham throws a left and a right that both miss
and Sobieski counters with a good, hard body kick but Booningham shrugs it off.
Sobieski throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


It looks like Daniel Booningham has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Sobieski looking to score a takedown here. Booningham is defending well but Sobieski drives through and ends up in Booningham's guard.
Sobieski is in close to Booningham's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Booningham wants to stand but Sobieski is controlling the position.
Booningham really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sobieski. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sobieski pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Booningham is keeping the position for now.
Booningham wants to stand but Sobieski is controlling the position.
Sobieski is in close to Booningham's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Sobieski is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Sobieski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Booningham swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sobieski prevents Booningham from getting back to his feet.
Sobieski is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Sobieski advances position into side control!
Sobieski looks up at the clock and then as Booningham takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Sobieski smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Sobieski lands a nice forearm strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sobieski is working to tighten his grip on Booningham's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Booningham has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Sobieski is really squeezing tight and eventually Booningham passes out! Sobieski breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Jan Sobieski!
Daniel Booningham was interviewed post fight and said 'You'll see me again soon even if it means I'm climbing in the cage to get a fight on my off day.'.
