Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Quincy Cooke! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mark Matthew ! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matthew shoots in and bounces Cooke off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Cooke seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Matthew passes Cooke's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Matthew trying to control from half guard but Cooke is working away. Cooke trying to control from the bottom.
Matthew is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cooke moves into full guard.
Cooke pulls Matthew in close to prevent any damage. Cooke keeping moving, preventing Matthew from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matthew stops Cooke from standing up. Cooke is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Cooke has Matthew pulled in close to control his posture. Cooke has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Matthew can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Matthew trying to control but Cooke is working from the bottom. Cooke controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Matthew gets to his feet. Cooke looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Matthew changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cooke looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Matthew with the ground and pound but Cooke regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Cooke gets back to full guard.
Cooke is looking to sweep but instead, Matthew has passed into half guard.
Matthew is trying to control. Cooke wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. The fighters are battling for position here. Cooke manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cooke is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Matthew pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cooke is keeping the position for now. Matthew really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cooke. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cooke holds on and takes a little breather. Matthew wants to control from the top but Cooke keeps moving. Cooke wants to sweep but no luck. Matthew gets to his feet. Cooke looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Cooke really is a fat lump.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Cooke throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Matthew was covering up waiting for the punch and Cooke finishes the takedown easily into guard. Matthew looks winded! Cooke controlling from the top position. Matthew is looking for a triangle but Cooke pushes his legs off easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Cooke has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Matthew is proving hard to escape from. Cooke slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Mark Matthew will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Matthew closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cooke to the mat! Cooke manages to get full guard. Matthew postures up in Cooke's guard and throws a big left but Cooke blocks it. Matthew gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Cooke drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Matthew bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Matthew bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Matthew is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cooke is not content to let Matthew control the position. Cooke manages to work his way to half guard, despite Matthew 's best efforts. Matthew missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Matthew wants to take a breather but Cooke is having none of it. Cooke is holding on to half guard well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Cooke slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cooke pulls Matthew in close to prevent any damage. Matthew trying to control but Cooke is working from the bottom. Cooke controls Matthew momentarily but Matthew frees himself.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Matthew manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Cooke on his heels. He'll look to pass Cooke's guard now, I'm sure.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cooke controlling the position. Cooke bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Matthew 's guard. Cooke passes into half guard. Matthew tries to get to full guard but Cooke has control of the leg. Cooke stands up from half guard. Matthew tries to clinch up. Matthew changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cooke looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Cooke sneaks out the side door and pushes Matthew away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cooke is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Matthew 's half guard. Matthew tries to kick Cooke off in order to stand up. Cooke Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control. Quincy Cooke overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cooke scoring with punches and elbows. Cooke is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Matthew is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Cooke tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Matthew manages to get back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Quincy Cooke will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Cooke keeps the fight on the outside. Cooke is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Matthew . Matthew is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cooke's half guard. Cooke is looking to improve his position.
Matthew thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cooke's head. Cooke is staying active underneath Matthew , who seems content to just control the action from this position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Matthew looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Matthew takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Cooke manages to get to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cooke looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Cooke has a closed guard, preventing Matthew from standing up.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Matthew moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Cooke scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Matthew is pushing Cooke's head away, looking to escape. Cooke manages to hold on to the position though. Cooke trying to control the action but Matthew is working from the bottom. Matthew tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cooke wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Matthew is trying to escape the position but Cooke is controlling the position. Cooke has hold of Matthew 's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Matthew seems comfortable defending it but Cooke has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Matthew is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Matthew is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Cooke couldn't care less - he's delighted!
