Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Von Cranial (ranked 1220 p4p, 142 weight class) and Robert Diggs (ranked 1228 p4p, 144 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Von Cranial!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Robert Diggs!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Kenichi Hosakawa and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diggs drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Diggs is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cranial has escaped the position, nice work there.
Diggs tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Diggs tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Diggs has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Cranial is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Diggs off and has taken his back!

Cranial has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Diggs's body.

Diggs has gone for a leg lock! Cranial slips out almost immediately though and dives into Diggs's guard.

Diggs throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Cranial escapes and throws Diggs's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Cranial prevents Diggs from improving his position.
Diggs keeps trying to improve his position.
Diggs wants to get back to full guard but Cranial has passed into side control.
Diggs is looking for a sweep.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Diggs wants to control but Cranial postures up.

Our spies down at at Jed's Gym inform us that Diggs has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Diggs is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Von Cranial will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Cranial fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Cranial, as that shot connected.

No joy there for Cranial, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Cranial throws a big counter combination but Diggs scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Diggs fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cranial manages to avoid it.

Diggs has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cranial is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

I was talking to Cranial's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Diggs pushes Cranial back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Diggs has picked Cranial up - he's going for a ride! Diggs dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Diggs is working for a submission of some sort.
Cranial is in trouble now - Diggs has advanced to mount!
Von Cranial is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Diggs throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Cranial because Diggs loaded up on that one.
Diggs thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Cranial wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Diggs.

Cranial slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Diggs is pressing down on Cranial's thigh, looking to free his foot. Cranial is holding on for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diggs not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Diggs is working for a kimura but Cranial is defending it quite comfortably.
Cranial is pressing down on Diggs's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Diggs accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Von Cranial.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cranial, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Von Cranial decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
