PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gustav Berglund (ranked 21344 p4p, 440 weight class) and Tim Slater (ranked 2668 p4p, 232 weight class). Berglund comes into the arena with Sufjan Stevens - To Be Alone With You blaring out of the sound system. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Gustav Berglund!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Tim Slater!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Slater closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Slater jumps into guard, dragging Berglund to the mat.
Berglund wants to stand but Slater is controlling his posture from full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Berglund accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Slater bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Berglund's guard.


Slater drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Slater jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Slater advances position into side control!
Berglund is trying to get back to his feet.
Slater content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Berglund wants to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Slater working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Slater wants to control but Berglund is keeping him busy.

Berglund is trying to get back to his feet.
Berglund throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Berglund is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Slater content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Berglund has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Slater wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Berglund, who protects the arm well.
Slater trying to control the action but Berglund is working from the bottom.

Berglund pushes Slater away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Slater gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Slater is looking to take a break and control but Berglund is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Slater prevents Berglund from escaping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slater in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Berglund is trying to buck Slater off.
Berglund is letting Slater control him for a moment.
Berglund wants to get back to his feet.

Berglund is not content to let Slater control the position.
Berglund wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Slater thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Berglund is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Slater happy to just control the position for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Berglund wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Berglund is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Slater asserts his dominance and retains side control.
A lull in the action here.

Slater looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Berglund wants to get back to his feet but Slater drags him back down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tim Slater dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Slater has Berglund up against the cage in a clinch.
Berglund tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Slater just stands there and leans against the cage.

Berglund preventing the sweep.
Slater manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Berglund manages to get himself to full guard.

Slater wants to pass the guard but Berglund is keeping the position.
Slater pushes down on Berglund's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Slater passes to full mount!

Slater looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Slater is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Slater!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Tim Slater!
An out of breath Tim Slater thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
