Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dmitry Ovchinnikov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hotaru Doji! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Darius Henderson and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ovchinnikov tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Doji manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Doji looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Ovchinnikov swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ovchinnikov takes a swing at Doji's ribcage but misses. Doji lands a body shot.
Doji misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ovchinnikov.
Doji has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Dmitry Ovchinnikov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Doji dodges the punch combination from Ovchinnikov.
Ovchinnikov is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Doji swings for the body but Ovchinnikov moves out of range.
Ovchinnikov throws a series of punches but Doji avoids them all with ease. Doji swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Ovchinnikov throws an overhand right that lands on Doji's shoulder, as Doji tries to avoid the shot. Ovchinnikov throws a right and a left that Doji avoids nicely. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ovchinnikov cracks a nice hook into Doji's ribs. Ovchinnikov bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Ovchinnikov misses with a wild body shot. Ovchinnikov uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Doji. A quick step to the side and Ovchinnikov tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Ovchinnikov looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Doji smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ovchinnikov walks into a jab.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ovchinnikov's jab looks to have found its range, popping Doji under the eye. Ovchinnikov is looking to wear down Doji with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. A looping hook to the body misses from Doji. Ovchinnikov does a little dance to reset his feet. Doji lands with a straight right. Ovchinnikov didn't see that one coming. Ovchinnikov clobbers Doji with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Ovchinnikov lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Doji circles away quickly and effectively. Doji lands with a shot to the body. Ovchinnikov slips a straight right by Doji. Ovchinnikov stuns Doji with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. A shot to the liver by Ovchinnikov. Beautiful body shot. Ovchinnikov lands a jab to Doji's midsection. Doji scores with a hook to the body. Ovchinnikov takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Ovchinnikov defending well as Doji loads up on a big left hand. Ovchinnikov is looking to counter punch. Ovchinnikov ducks under a wild hook from Doji. Ovchinnikov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Doji was well out of range. Poor timing from Ovchinnikov. Doji uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Ovchinnikov looks up at the clock. Bad move! Doji lands a right hand from hell, dropping Ovchinnikov. Doji pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.
