PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ludwig Mandrill (ranked 5712 p4p, 370 weight class) and Vladimir Konstantinov (ranked 6523 p4p, 393 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Ludwig Mandrill has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Ludwig Mandrill seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ludwig Mandrill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vladimir Konstantinov!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Steven Brown and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mandrill ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Konstantinov moves away.
Konstantinov fails with a takedown attempt.
Konstantinov shoots in but no luck this time.
Konstantinov displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mandrill throws out the jab.
Konstantinov dives in and grabs Mandrill's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mandrill pushes down on Konstantinov's head and hops out.
Ludwig Mandrill has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vladimir Konstantinov.
Mandrill just misses with a punch to the body.

Mandrill fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Konstantinov sprawls well initially but Mandrill persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Konstantinov felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mandrill connects with a nice short shot to Konstantinov's temple.

Konstantinov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mandrill can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
