PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Harold Shipman (ranked 1057 p4p, 126 weight class) and Steve Sanchez (ranked 1155 p4p, 141 weight class). Shipman comes into the arena with I'll beat yo ass. blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Sanchez's choice of entrance music: Where is My Mind? by Pixies. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, Harold Shipman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez looks to land a combination. Shipman sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Harold Shipman has been cut.
A slow jab from Sanchez misses its intended target.
Shipman slips a straight right by Sanchez.
Shipman went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Sanchez leaves Shipman with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Shipman wants to clinch up but Sanchez keeps it at a distance.
Sanchez swinging wildly here.

Shipman darts in and clinches Sanchez up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Shipman has him pressed against the cage.

Shipman wants the takedown. Sanchez is fighting it off but Shipman persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Sanchez's guard against the cage.

Shipman wants to control from the top but Sanchez keeps moving.

Sanchez is looking to sweep but instead, Shipman has passed into half guard.
Sanchez is trying to control but can't.
Shipman not doing much here.

Shipman is trying to work for a kimura but Sanchez is defending well.
Sanchez wants to control but Shipman is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Sanchez moves into full guard.

Shipman drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sanchez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Shipman has Sanchez in his guard.


That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Shipman trying to control the position.
Shipman wants to sweep here but Sanchez controlling him for the moment.
Sanchez postures up in Shipman's guard and throws a big left but Shipman blocks it.
Sanchez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Shipman utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Shipman looking for a guillotine here but Sanchez defends easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shipman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Shipman lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Sanchez keeps trying to improve his position.
Shipman trying to control the position from guard on top but Sanchez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Shipman slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez is trying to get back to half guard.
Sanchez felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Sanchez is not content to let Shipman control the position.

Shipman tries for a kimura but Sanchez is defending well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Shipman has hold of Sanchez's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Sanchez tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Shipman cranks the arm and Sanchez screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Sanchez, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Harold Shipman!
Harold Shipman decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
