Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jacob Mathis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Eric Stensson! The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Mathis. No joy for Stensson on that attempt. Stensson misses with an uppercut. Mathis saw that one coming. Mathis is looking for a counter combo. Stensson is looking to clinch. Stensson gets off balance looking for a body kick and Mathis counters with a one-two to the body. Mathis shoots in looking for a takedown. Stensson tries to sprawl out of it but Mathis keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Stensson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Stensson takes the fight into the clinch. Mathis lands an uppercut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mathis wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Stensson has him pressed against the cage. Stensson has hold of one of Mathis's legs. Mathis is fighting the takedown attempt but Stensson gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Stensson sitting in guard here, content to control. Stensson trying to stand up but can't free himself from Mathis's guard. Mathis working a defensive guard here.
Mathis is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Stensson dives into side control.
Mathis is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Stensson asserts his dominance and retains side control. Mathis sneaks out the side door and pushes Stensson away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mathis gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Stensson to score an easy takedown into full guard. Mathis is wriggling around but Stensson manages to pass to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Mathis wants to improve his position but Stensson is controlling well.
Stensson is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Mathis is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
