Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cristobal Watts! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ricky Bobby! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Shimada and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Watts tries to clinch there but Bobby circles away.
Bobby looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Watts manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bobby on his heels. He'll look to pass Bobby's guard now, I'm sure. Watts trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Watts lands a couple of digs. Watts is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Bobby is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Bobby has escaped and now he's on top! Bobby wants to pass the guard but Watts is keeping the position. Watts is looking to stand up but Bobby isn't so interested in that idea. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Watts has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bobby can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Watts escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bobby gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Watts throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Bobby escapes and throws Watts's legs to the side, diving into side control! Bobby lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Watts is not content to let Bobby control the position. Watts tries to buck Bobby off but Bobby is having none of it. Bobby wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Watts, who protects the arm well. Bobby tries for a kimura but Watts is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Watts manages to get back to half guard. Watts pushes Bobby off looking to stand but Bobby dives back in and keeps control.
Watts pushes Bobby off and gets back to his feet. Watts shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Bobby tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Bobby has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Watts is working away from the top position though. Watts throwing shots but Bobby is blocking nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Watts seems to be working for a kimura but Bobby defends the submission attempt. Watts is looking for a kimura but Bobby is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Watts to get the leverage. Bobby looks like he's trying to stand up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Watts feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bobby is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Watts trying to control the position from guard on top but Bobby is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Watts in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Watts postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Bobby trying to keep a closed guard but Watts is proving a slippery customer.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Bobby is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Bobby looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Watts passes into half guard.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bobby enables Watts to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bobby manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Watts has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bobby is proving hard to escape from. Watts has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Watts trying to control the position from guard on top but Bobby is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Watts engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bobby throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Watts knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bobby on the ground. Bobby is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Watts trying to control the position from guard on top but Bobby is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Watts with a nice head shot there. Watts has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bobby is proving hard to escape from. Watts has gone for a leg lock! Bobby slips out almost immediately though and dives into Watts's guard.
Watts had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bobby defends it easily. Watts looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bobby thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Watts wants to sweep but no luck. Watts is looking to stand up but Bobby isn't so interested in that idea. Watts tries to strike from the bottom.
Bobby wants to control from the top but Watts keeps moving. Watts controls Bobby momentarily but Bobby frees himself. Bobby slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bobby trying to control the position but Watts is working away. Watts prevents Bobby from moving into mount. Watts tries to improve position but can't. Bobby tries to stand but Watts is controlling his head. Watts is trying to get back to half guard. Bobby tries to advance to mount but Watts denies him. Watts is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Bobby asserts his dominance and retains side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Bobby is looking to take a break and control but Watts is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Watts wants to get back to his feet but Bobby drags him back down.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Watts wants to clinch up but Bobby keeps it at a distance. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Watts drives through with a takedown into guard. Bobby not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ricky Bobby showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
