Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Riley (ranked 23203 p4p, 0 weight class) and David McCarthy (ranked 4874 p4p, 0 weight class). McCarthy comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Chamillionaire - Ridin' ft. Krayzie Bone kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex Riley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
27 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David McCarthy! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Francis DeMontford and Topper Green.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McCarthy darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. McCarthy stands up and beckons Riley to join him on the feet. Riley throws a jab but it's blocked by McCarthy. Riley throws a body punch but McCarthy moves out of range. McCarthy changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Riley looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. McCarthy decides to stand back up. McCarthy steps back and let's Riley get back to his feet. McCarthy gets in close and instigates a clinch. Riley wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Riley wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
McCarthy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! McCarthy fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Riley, pushing him back against the cage. McCarthy breaks the clinch.
Riley misses with an uppercut.
That's one minute gone in the round. McCarthy moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
McCarthy gets a takedown into half guard. Riley is looking for a sweep. McCarthy is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. McCarthy decides to stand and escape the position. McCarthy shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. McCarthy decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. McCarthy shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. McCarthy showed some decent athleticism there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McCarthy stands up out of the half guard.

McCarthy shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Riley wants to get back to full guard. Riley avoiding damage under a succession of punches from McCarthy. McCarthy looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Riley is not content to let McCarthy control the position. McCarthy escapes and gets back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fight moves into the clinch position. McCarthy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
McCarthy darts in and clinches Riley up against the cage. McCarthy breaks from the clinch.
Riley throws a shot from downtown. McCarthy moves away and avoids it. Riley is looking to clinch. Riley throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Riley scores with a hook to the body. McCarthy takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Nice defenses there by McCarthy. Riley tries to grapple but his opponent circles and McCarthy counters with a good, hard body kick but Riley shrugs it off.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Riley throws a jab but it's blocked by McCarthy. McCarthy scores with a takedown into Riley's guard. McCarthy won't allow Riley to get back to his feet. McCarthy gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. McCarthy circles away from the clinch attempt.
Riley misses with a wild body shot. McCarthy shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Riley's guard. Riley knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McCarthy on the ground. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. McCarthy gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Alex Riley is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Riley throws a poor cross that misses
and McCarthy counters with a single leg into guard. Riley didn't expect that. Riley is looking to stand back up but McCarthy counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Riley.
McCarthy is trying to work for a kimura but Riley is defending well.
McCarthy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Riley keeps working. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
David McCarthy dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
McCarthy fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Riley sprawls well initially but McCarthy persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Riley flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
McCarthy seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Riley is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
