Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jean Labosky (ranked 1648 p4p, 166 weight class) and Sam Quint (ranked 2871 p4p, 246 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 28 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jean Labosky! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
30 - 16 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Sam Quint! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Jonathan Paton and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck with that takedown attempt from Quint. Sam Quint seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A looping hook to the body misses from Quint. Labosky does a little dance to reset his feet. Quint throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Labosky is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Labosky uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Quint.
It looked like Labosky was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. A head kick misses from Labosky. Quint throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Labosky has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Lovelair Muay Thai/MMA in the buildup to the fight. A slapping leg kick lands for Quint.
Labosky ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Labosky throws a big counter combination but Quint scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Quint scores with a jab to the body. Labosky fakes the leg kick and cracks Quint in the body. Labosky scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Quint throws a right hand that Labosky ducks under and follows up with a left that Labosky also avoids with ease. Quint takes one on the button. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Nice straight punches there by Quint. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Quint. Labosky slips a jab and a cross from Quint.
Labosky is looking to counter the offense by Quint and move into the clinch. Labosky uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Quint.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fight moves into the clinch position. Labosky breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Labosky moves out of range as Quint strikes. Quint swings and misses with a shot to the body and Labosky counters with a left and a right that stings Quint. A combination from Quint does no damage. Quint fails to land the takedown. No joy there for Labosky, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

It looks like Sam Quint has been cut. Quint fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Labosky manages to avoid it.

Quint closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Quint misses with a body punch.
Labosky's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Quint moves into range and clinches up with Labosky. Labosky jumps guard but Quint turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Labosky tries to circle away but Quint has him pinned against the cage. Labosky has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Quint is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Quint misses with a punch to the body.
Quint stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Quint lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Quint swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Labosky has had enough of the clinch but Quint keeps him there for the moment. Labosky wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Quint has him pressed against the cage. Quint's coach down at Pugilists and Grapplers Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Quint's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Quint tries to score a body lock takedown but Labosky shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Jean Labosky has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Quint. Quint scores with an uppercut up the middle. Labosky breaks from the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Quint throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Labosky's waist but Labosky gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Quint off to one side. Quint tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Labosky was well out of range. Poor timing from Quint. Quint clinches with his opponent.

Labosky is looking to break free of the clinch but Quint has double underhooks. Quint is pushing Labosky up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. A nice left hand lands by Quint.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Quint works over Labosky's head and body with a nice combination. Quint throws a lazy head kick and Labosky counters with a three punch combo that has Quint backing up. Quint nods at Labosky to acknowledge the strikes. Quint is looking to land body kicks. A punch combination from Quint misses. Labosky appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick. Quint fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Labosky manages to avoid it. A head kick misses from Labosky. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Quint scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Labosky doesn't seem bothered though. Quint closes this distance looking for a takedown but Labosky circles away. Quint throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Quint connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A slow jab from Quint misses its intended target. Labosky shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Nice defenses there by Labosky. Quint wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Jean Labosky is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Labosky thows a body kick. Quint tries to catch it but that hurt him. Labosky throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Sam Quint showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Sam Quint's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!
Quint throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Labosky wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Quint throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Quint moves into range and clinches up with Labosky. Labosky breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Quint connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Labosky slips a jab from Quint. Quint listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Labosky checks a low kick from Quint. Quint tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Labosky is able to avoid easily. Labosky throws a big counter combination but Quint scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Sam Quint seems to be getting the better of the standup. Labosky pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Quint scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Labosky doesn't seem bothered though. Quint cracks the inside of Labosky's front leg. Quint throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Quint lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Labosky or not. Labosky avoiding damage as Quint throws knees to the body.
Labosky has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Quint avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Labosky drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Quint gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Quint breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Quint lands with a good body shot. Labosky lands with an uppercut that bounces Quint off the cage and back into range. Labosky tries a head kick but it misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Quint clinches. Labosky takes a shot to the head. Labosky is trying to break the clinch but Quint is controlling him. Labosky working hard to break the clinch. Quint lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Labosky or not. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Quint has Labosky pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Quint pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Labosky tumbling to the mat - Quint dives into Labosky's guard. Labosky will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Quint is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Quint passes into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Quint controlling the pace. Jean Labosky has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Labosky looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Labosky wants to get back to his feet. Sam Quint is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Quint looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Labosky tries to roll over but Quint keeps him under control. Quint controlling the pace.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Labosky wants to control but Quint is keeping busy and won't allow it. Quint frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Quint takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Labosky tries to hold on but Quint postures up. Labosky working to try and regain half guard.
Quint seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Labosky is holding on tight.
Labosky is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that's the end of the fight! Sam Quint comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Quint has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
