The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mcgiven rushes Gunner and presses him up against the ropes. Gunner landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Gunner with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Mcgiven is working for takedown but Gunner is calmly controlling the position for now. Mcgiven gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mcgiven throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Mcgiven is looking for a kimura but Gunner is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mcgiven to get the leverage. Gunner moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. A left and a right from Gunner both land. Nice combination. Gunner just misses with a punch to the body.
Gunner looks to land a combination but Mcgiven avoids it well. Gunner throws a right hand that Mcgiven ducks under and follows up with a left that Mcgiven also avoids with ease. Gunner swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Gunner stuffs the takedown. Gunner connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Gunner rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mcgiven moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Mcgiven closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mcgiven lands in his opponent's guard. Gunner tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Gunner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Gunner fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Mcgiven looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Gunner ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gunner throws a lazy right hand but Mcgiven sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Gunner misses with a hook. Mcgiven ducked under it nicely. Gunner moves into the clinch successfully.

Mcgiven has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Gunner is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roger Mcgiven. That's going to take a lot out of him. A knee to the head by Gunner.

Mcgiven jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gunner walks away with a smile on his face. Mcgiven gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Gunner throws a series of punches but Mcgiven moves out of range. Mcgiven shoots for a takedown but Gunner saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Gunner tries to bum rush Mcgiven with a series of wild strikes but Mcgiven uses good footwork to avoid the assault. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mcgiven circles away from the clinch attempt and Mcgiven counters with a nice double leg into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Gunner dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Mcgiven counters into the clinch. Nicely done. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Gunner lands a knee to the head.

Mcgiven has picked Gunner up - he's going for a ride! Mcgiven dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Gunner is looking to control Mcgiven's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gunner avoid being mounted? The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Gunner wants to get back to full guard. Mcgiven is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gunner defends it well. Gunner tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Gunner looks like he's trying to stand up.
Mcgiven is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gunner doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mcgiven. Gunner tries to roll over but Mcgiven keeps him under control. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gunner throws a combination that misses and Mcgiven counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gunner won't be happy with that. Gunner is trying to improve his position. Mcgiven thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Mcgiven is trying to get an arm triangle but Gunner is defending well. Gunner can't do much from the bottom here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gunner might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mcgiven kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Mcgiven is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gunner has escaped the position, nice work there. Mcgiven tries for a kimura but Gunner is defending well. Gunner manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Gunner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mcgiven is working away from the top position though. Gunner manages to get to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Mcgiven drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Mcgiven as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Gunner screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Mcgiven! Nice submission victory there!
