Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Bruno Lombardi and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Vargas counters with a two punch combo.
Smith gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Vargas counters with a low kick, right behind Smith 's knee.
Smith misses with a takedown
and Vargas counters with a lovely shot to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dan Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vargas is looking to stand up but Smith isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vargas pushes Smith off and scrambles back to his feet.
Smith feints and as Vargas raises his hands in defense, Smith changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Smith working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Vargas's head.
Smith is working Vargas over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Smith stands up over Vargas, holding on to his feet. Smith throws the legs to one side and dives in with a huge shot that lands flush on the chin! Vargas is out cold! Smith lands a couple more shots and the ref tackles him out of the way! What a brutal finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Dan Smith!
