PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tsukune Shiba (ranked 3174 p4p, 393 weight class) and Jean Cristopher La Vellei (ranked 1922 p4p, 260 weight class). Shiba comes to the cage accompanied by Fall Out Boy - The Phoenix. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tsukune Shiba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jean Cristopher La Vellei!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Donatello Bradman and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from La Vellei.
A punch combination from La Vellei misses.
Shiba throws a big counter combination but La Vellei scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Decent striking displayed by La Vellei there.
La Vellei throws a jab but it's blocked by Shiba.
A little feinted left hand from Shiba on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
A thudding body kick lands there by La Vellei!
Shiba lands a nice shot to the body.
La Vellei misses with a body shot
letting Shiba counter with a right hand.
Sloppy strikes from La Vellei. Those never looked like landing.
It looked like Shiba wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
La Vellei throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
La Vellei shoots in looking for a takedown. Shiba tries to sprawl out of it but La Vellei keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shiba manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
La Vellei shoots and misses
and Shiba counters with a lovely straight right hand!
We've been told by Shiba's head coaches at Rokugan that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shiba stuffs the takedown attempt from La Vellei. La Vellei gets slowly back to his feet.
It looked like Shiba wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Tsukune Shiba has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jean Cristopher La Vellei.
La Vellei missing with a left hand there. Shiba was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
La Vellei throws a hook to the side of Shiba's head but Shiba sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Shiba lands a nice shot to the body.
La Vellei shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Shiba as he avoids it easily.
That kick from La Vellei tenderised Shiba's leg. Shiba is trying to keep his angry face on.
La Vellei walks into a straight right hand from Shiba.
La Vellei is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
La Vellei misses with an uppercut. Shiba saw that one coming.
Shiba leaves La Vellei with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A little feinted left hand from Shiba on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Shiba fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
La Vellei tries for a takedown but Shiba circles away easily

and Shiba counters with a crisp one two that drops La Vellei! Shiba thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves La Vellei to his feet! La Vellei is in big trouble!
La Vellei has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
La Vellei looks winded!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
La Vellei throws a shot from downtown. Shiba moves away and avoids it.
La Vellei throws a nice looking combination but Shiba bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Shiba lands a big uppercut and La Vellei crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but La Vellei looks OK. Shiba waves La Vellei back to his feet!


La Vellei is rocked!
La Vellei throws an overhand right that lands on Shiba's shoulder, as Shiba tries to avoid the shot.
La Vellei tries for a takedown but Shiba circles away easily

and Shiba counters with a nice right hand that sends La Vellei toppling to the canvas! La Vellei scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Shiba finish him?!
La Vellei is still on wobbly legs! Can Shiba finish him?
Shiba fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. La Vellei looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
La Vellei seems to have recovered his senses.

Shiba drops La Vellei with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but La Vellei looks back up at him and smiles so Shiba waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Shiba knocks out La Vellei with a massive right hand! The ref tackles Shiba before he can follow up with any more strikes and that's it everyone. Shiba picks up the big W with a huge KO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Tsukune Shiba!
A victorious Tsukune Shiba thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter.
