PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam Nowak (ranked 6456 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikolay Egorovich (ranked 4052 p4p, 0 weight class). Nikolay Egorovich will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Adam Nowak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nikolay Egorovich!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Egorovich gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Egorovich wriggles free and stands up.

Egorovich gets caught napping as Nowak dives in and scores a takedown. Egorovich manages to retain guard.
Egorovich really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nowak. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Nowak connects with a couple of short punches.

Egorovich looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Nowak is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Egorovich trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Nowak throws a big elbow that misses.
Nowak trying to control but Egorovich is working from the bottom.
Egorovich can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nowak controls the pace.

Nowak is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Egorovich can do anything to dispel that myth.
Nowak passes into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nowak winds up and cracks Egorovich with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Nowak looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Nowak not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Egorovich drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Nowak holds on and takes a little breather.
Egorovich must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Nowak looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Nowak will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Nowak controls Egorovich momentarily but Egorovich frees himself.
Nowak is controlling Egorovich's posture.
Nowak really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Egorovich is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Nowak is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Nowak has escaped and now he's on top!

Nowak postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nowak trying to control the position from guard on top but Egorovich is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Nowak postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Egorovich is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Nowak, into his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nowak seems keen to control Egorovich's posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Adam Nowak will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Egorovich tries to close the distance and clinch up but Nowak swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Nowak shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nowak showed some decent athleticism there.
Nowak scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Nowak trying to control from half guard but Egorovich is working away.
Nowak takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Egorovich wants to get back to full guard.
Nowak content to control rather than advance.
Nowak is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Nowak in particular looking to stall.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Egorovich fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Egorovich wants to clinch up but Nowak keeps it at a distance.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Nowak.
Nowak trying to control the action but Egorovich is working from the bottom.
Nowak is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Egorovich can do to turn this around?
Egorovich looks to move to half guard but instead Nowak has passed into mount! Damn!

Egorovich defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Nowak.
Nowak scoring with strikes but Egorovich is staying in there.
Nowak sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Nowak wants to finish this one by submission but Egorovich is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Nowak.

Egorovich takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Egorovich is trying to escape the mount.
Nowak content just to control the position here.

Nowak moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Egorovich has worked his arm free - good work by Egorovich!
Nowak in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Nowak is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Egorovich is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Egorovich tries to buck Nowak off but Nowak is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Nowak dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


A punch combination from Nowak misses.

Nowak looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Egorovich!
Nowak cracks Egorovich with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Nowak has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Nowak cracks Egorovich with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Nowak looking to control but Egorovich is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nowak lands a couple of good shots and Egorovich has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Nowak tries to get the hooks in deep but Egorovich pushed the leg off.

Nowak punches Egorovich on the ear.
Egorovich looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Nowak softening up his opponent with strikes here.
Nowak has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Nowak looking for the choke from the back.

Nowak has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Egorovich's body.
Egorovich is trying to stand back up.

Nowak has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Egorovich has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

What can Egorovich do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Will Nowak go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Nowak has his opponent's back but Egorovich is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Nowak.
Nikolay Egorovich has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Adam Nowak is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Nowak thows a leg kick but Egorovich checks it
and Egorovich counters with a nice uppercut.

And that's the end of the fight!
Adam Nowak showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Nowak has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
