PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gun Seok Bak (ranked 1757 p4p, 89 weight class) and Brock Steve (ranked 3124 p4p, 152 weight class). Bak kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Leader, Just Give Us Your Order!. Gun Seok Bak has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gun Seok Bak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Brock Steve!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bak rushes Steve and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Steve gets control of Bak's arms and successfully pulls guard. Steve will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Steve has his foot on Bak's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bak works his way back into a safe position though.
Bak looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Bak definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Bak has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Steve manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bak manages to get himself to full guard.

Bak pulls Steve in close to prevent any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bak wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Steve manages to pass to side control.
Steve perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Bak trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

Bak tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Steve content just to control the position here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Steve thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Steve stands up from mount. Strange move.
Steve gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Bak counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
A left lands for Bak.
Steve goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Bak throws an overhand right that lands on Steve's shoulder, as Steve tries to avoid the shot.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Steve takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Bak lands a lovely overhand right.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Steve dodges the punch combination from Bak.
Bak throws a jab but it's blocked by Steve.
Bak jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Steve tries to counter with a clinch but Bak shakes him off and moves away.
Steve keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Steve shoots in looking for a takedown. Bak tries to sprawl out of it but Steve keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bak manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Steve avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Bak throws out a loose jab but Steve uses good head movement to avoid it.
Steve is looking for the big counter here.
A slow jab from Bak misses its intended target.
Bak misses with an uppercut. Steve saw that one coming.

Bak gets a clinch.

Steve drags the fight down to the ground.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Steve trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Bak stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Steve pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Steve shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bak counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Gun Seok Bak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brock Steve.
A swing and a miss from Bak.
Bak throws a big shot that misses.
Steve wants to counter with a clinch but Bak pushes him away.
Steve shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bak but Bak pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A low kick from Steve misses
and Bak counters with a stiff right hand.
Steve takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Bak lands with an uppercut that bounces Steve off the cage and back into range.
Bak connects with a good right hand that stumbles Steve. Steve circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gun Seok Bak dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bak stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bak wants it to stay on the feet.

Steve gets a clinch.
Bak tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Bak misses with the head strike.
Bak is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Steve can do to turn this around?
Steve wants to take the fight to the mat but Bak manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
A nice left hand lands by Bak.
A short right from Bak on the inside.

Bak's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bak punishes Steve's body with a nice straight punch.
Steve throws a head kick but Bak moves out of range.
Bak will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bak swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Steve.
Bak lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Gun Seok Bak is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Bak scores with a nice head shot.


Steve is rocked!
Bak keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Steve is still on wobbly legs! Can Bak finish him?
A big left from Bak misses.
Steve seems to have recovered his senses.
Bak connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Gun Seok Bak is winning the standup battle so far.
Bak batters Steve with a massive right followed by a huge left! Steve is out on his feet looking like a zombie as Bak lands a final crushing right hand to drop Steve to the mat with a gruesome thud! Bak is running around like a mad man after that fight and for good reason!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Gun Seok Bak!
Gun Seok Bak tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
