Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hlasela Dlamini! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Felipe Dias! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dlamini fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Dias unleashes a big counter combination but Dlamini bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Dlamini keeps the fight on the outside. Dias just misses with a punch to the body.
Dias tries to clinch there but Dlamini circles away.
Dlamini fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dias avoids it really well and circles away. Dlamini lands with a right hand. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dlamini shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Dias eats them both and turns towards Dlamini to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Hlasela Dlamini seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Dlamini takes the fight into the clinch. Dias prevents Dlamini from breaking the clinch. Dias lands a body punch in the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dias lands a body punch. Dias is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body. Dias lands an elbow inside. Dias lands a nice elbow from the clinch. Dlamini is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Dias is defending well. Dlamini is breathing heavily. A frustrated look appears on Dlamini's face as he tries to break the clinch. Dlamini can't break the clinch.
Dias lands an elbow that stopped Dlamini in his tracks for a moment. Dias using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Dias lands a damaging elbow. Dlamini tries to pull guard but Dias holds him up against the cage and eventually Dlamini drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hlasela Dlamini. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dlamini pulls guard. Dias wants to stand but Dlamini is controlling his posture from full guard. Dlamini is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dias wants to get up but he can't break Dlamini's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Dias wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Dlamini's closed guard. He's half up but Dlamini has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Dlamini pivots and extends the arm, Dias falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Dlamini! Well done that man!
