Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hans Brock (ranked 24009 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karls Laks (ranked 5329 p4p, 0 weight class). Karls Laks will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hans Brock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Karls Laks!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shirou Masuda and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laks misses with a takedown

and Brock holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Laks pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Brock shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Laks is trying to defend but Brock finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Laks trying to control from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brock missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Brock will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Brock thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Laks wants to improve his position but Brock is controlling well.
Laks has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Brock is working away from the top position though.

Laks is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Brock scores with a couple of nice shots.
Laks wants to get back to full guard.
Brock stops Laks from getting back to his feet.

Brock is working for a kimura but Laks is defending it quite comfortably.

Laks is defending against the submission attempts here by Brock.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Brock keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Laks is trying to control but can't.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Brock in particular looking to stall.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Laks looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Brock lands a leg kick that knocks Laks off balance momentarily.

Laks fails with the takedown
and Brock counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Brock moves into the clinch successfully.
Brock is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Laks jumps guard but Brock turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Brock has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Laks after a bit of a struggle.

Brock gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Laks regains guard.
Laks is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Brock dives into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.


The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Brock tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Brock has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Brock scores with a head kick.
Karls Laks is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A head kick misses from Laks.
Laks fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Brock avoids it really well and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brock throws a sloppy head kick and Laks moves out of range easily.
Laks gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Brock counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Laks thinking.
Laks shoots in but no luck this time.

Laks is breathing heavily.

Brock closes the distance and clinches.
Brock manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Brock's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Brock, right into the meat.
Laks moves to clinch but Brock breaks away
and Brock counters with a stiff right hand.
Laks fails with an attempt to clinch.
Brock throws a counter high kick but Laks was just alert enough to avoid it.
Brock is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Laks can do to turn this around?
Laks closes the distance and clinches up with Brock, looking for a takedown. Laks pushes Brock against the cage but Brock circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Laks or perhaps it was just good defense by Brock, which made it look bad.

Brock clinches up with Laks and pushes him back against the cage.
Laks tries to pull guard but Brock holds him up against the cage and eventually Laks drops back down to his feet.
Brock slows down the pace here.
Laks letting Brock take a breather here.

Brock breaks the clinch.

Brock rushes Laks and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Brock.
Brock has Laks pressed against the cage.
Brock lands a damaging elbow.
Laks gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Brock.
Laks tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Brock has Laks pushed against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Brock turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Brock manages to end up in side control.

Brock gets to mount! Laks was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Brock gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Brock closes the distance and clinches.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Brock manages to break the clinch.

Brock darts in and clinches Laks up against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Brock pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Brock rushes Laks and presses him up against the cage.
Brock lands with a short shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hans Brock dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Brock gets a clinch.
Laks keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Brock's efforts to push away.
Laks tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Brock smiles and moves away.

Laks rushes Brock and presses him up against the cage.
Laks jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Brock walks away with a smile on his face. Laks gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brock shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Brock was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Brock is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Laks has escaped the position, nice work there.

Brock stands up and beckons Laks to his feet.
Laks takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Laks closes the distance looking to clinch
and Brock counters with a two punch combo.
Laks has his takedown stuffed
and Brock cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Hans Brock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Karls Laks.

Brock moves into range and clinches up with Laks.
Hans Brock has scored more points in the clinch so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Brock breaks the clinch.
Karls Laks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Laks shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Brock as he jumps to the side.
As Laks tries to get set, Brock tries to push him back and clinch up but Laks manages to avoid the attempt.
Hans Brock is winning the standup battle so far.
Brock blocks a head kick by Laks.
Brock is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Laks.

Brock gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Brock breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Brock closes the distance and clinches.

Brock breaks from the clinch.

Brock decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Brock controlling the action here.
Laks really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brock. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Brock drops an elbow to the side of Laks's head.
Hans Brock overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Brock is taking a breather. Laks says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Brock is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Laks doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Brock.
Brock looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hans Brock showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Brock has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
