Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pyrrhus Epirus! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Conor OMalley! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! OMalley shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Epirus sprawls well. Epirus wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. OMalley gets slowly back to his feet. Epirus tries to counter with a takedown but OMalley is quick to defend against it. OMalley looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Nice takedown defense from Epirus. No joy for OMalley on that attempt. OMalley is trying hard to land a takedown here. Epirus sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Pyrrhus Epirus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Conor OMalley. Epirus fails in his attempt to clinch. OMalley is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. OMalley looks for a takedown but Epirus sprawls well. Epirus drops down looking for a counter takedown but OMalley sprawls and moves away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nice takedown defense from Epirus. That's one minute gone in the round. OMalley misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Epirus changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Pyrrhus Epirus is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Epirus throws a low kick but OMalley moves out of range easily. And OMalley tries to counter it with a takedown but Epirus pushes his down on his head and steps out. Epirus just misses with a punch to the body.
Epirus rushes OMalley and presses him up against the ropes. Epirus tries to throw a body punch but OMalley avoids it by throwing Epirus back against the ropes. Epirus working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Epirus scores with a nice hook to the head. A short body shot lands from Epirus as the two fighters clinch.
OMalley goes for a takedown attempt but Epirus pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Epirus tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but OMalley paws at him with a jab and circles away. OMalley shoots in for a takedown but Epirus shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. No luck with that takedown attempt from OMalley. OMalley swats away the attempt to clinch by Epirus. OMalley tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Epirus swivels and escapes. Epirus ducks under a wild hook from OMalley. OMalley fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Epirus doesn't manage to clinch there - OMalley circles away.
Conor OMalley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from OMalley. Epirus tries to clinch there but OMalley circles away.
OMalley shoots in looking for a takedown but Epirus manages to keep the fight standing, pushing OMalley's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Epirus feinted with a counter takedown. Nice takedown defense from Epirus. No joy for OMalley on that attempt. Epirus stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Epirus wants it to stay on the feet. OMalley throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Epirus is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Epirus scores with a push kick. OMalley shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Epirus sprawls well. Epirus wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. OMalley gets slowly back to his feet.
That's five minutes gone in the round. OMalley misses with a takedown and Epirus counters with a nice double leg into side control. OMalley won't be happy with that. OMalley manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! OMalley is looking to take a break and control but Epirus is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Epirus wants to improve his position but OMalley is controlling well.
We've been hearing good reports from Epirus's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Epirus trying to control but OMalley postures up.
Epirus holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. OMalley has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Epirus defend it? OMalley steps over the head and cranks it - Epirus is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for OMalley!
