6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Maxim Menshikov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlos Ruas! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Vladimir Khabensky and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ruas pushing out the jab but it's not landing. An attempted straight right counter from Menshikov misses the target. Ruas connects with a single shot there. Ruas drives through with a takedown into Menshikov's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Ruas tries to free his leg and advance position but Menshikov is retaining full guard. Menshikov is wriggling around but Ruas manages to pass to half guard.
Ruas is trying to control. Menshikov wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Menshikov wants to get back to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ruas trying to control the action but Menshikov is working from the bottom. Menshikov is looking to get back to is feet but Ruas passes into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruas is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Menshikov knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Menshikov gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Menshikov squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Menshikov is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at St Petersburg MMA Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Menshikov trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Ruas is trying to take his opponent's back.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Menshikov sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Menshikov tries to kick Ruas off but Ruas keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Ruas passes to side control. Menshikov is trying to get back to half guard. Ruas is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Menshikov has escaped the position, nice work there. Ruas tries for a kimura but Menshikov is defending well. Menshikov tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ruas wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruas prevents Menshikov from escaping the position. Menshikov bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! Maxim Menshikov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Ruas tries for a takedown but Menshikov sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Ruas cracks Menshikov with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Menshikov gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Menshikov has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Ruas off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Menshikov throws out a powerful jab. Ruas fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Menshikov avoids it really well and circles away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Menshikov throws a shot from downtown. Ruas moves away and avoids it. Ruas avoids the body shot from Menshikov.
Ruas looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Menshikov is fending him off so far but Ruas persists. Nope, Menshikov circles away and we're back to standing. Maxim Menshikov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carlos Ruas. Ruas takes one on the button.
It looks like Carlos Ruas has been cut. Menshikov drives through and clinches with Ruas against the cage.
Ruas has Menshikov pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Menshikov manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Ruas is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Menshikov is defending well. Menshikov scores with a hook to the body. Menshikov lands with a short shot to the head. Ruas is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. A quick uppercut on the inside from Menshikov. Ruas tries for a takedown. No joy.
Menshikov throws a head punch that misses. Ruas pulls guard. Menshikov is looking to stand up but Ruas won't let him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Maxim Menshikov will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Carlos Ruas's cut. That's time! Menshikov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Menshikov throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Ruas drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Menshikov defends it well. Menshikov stuffs the takedown. A lazy left from Menshikov finds it's target. Menshikov has Ruas up against the cage in a clinch.
Ruas tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Menshikov swings wildly with an uppercut but Ruas uses good head movement to avoid it. Ruas tries to pull guard but Menshikov holds him up against the cage and eventually Ruas drops back down to his feet.
Ruas wants to take the fight to the mat but Menshikov manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Maxim Menshikov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carlos Ruas. Menshikov avoiding damage as Ruas throws knees to the body.

That has opened up Carlos Ruas's cut even more. Menshikov stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Menshikov lands a hook that snaps the head of Ruas backwards. Menshikov just leaning against Ruas, taking a breather. Still in the clinch, Menshikov scores with a nice short uppercut. A short uppercut from Menshikov. A head punch blocked on the inside by Menshikov. Ruas is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Menshikov is defending well for now. Maxim Menshikov has scored more points in the clinch so far. Menshikov scores with a shoulder strike. Menshikov scores with a shoulder strike. Menshikov lands with a short shot to the head. A right handed body shot lands from Menshikov.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Menshikov softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Menshikov lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Ruas is rocked!
The cut above Carlos Ruas's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Menshikov lands with a light punch inside. Ruas is still on wobbly legs! Can Menshikov finish him?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Menshikov digs a right hand underneath Ruas's ribcage. Ruas let out a lung full of air as it connected. Menshikov lands a big right hand that drops Ruas! The killer instinct kicks in and Menshikov finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Menshikov!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:12 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Maxim Menshikov! A relieved looking Maxim Menshikov thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. The defeated Carlos Ruas had this to say: 'No one likes seeing their opponent's hand raised, but that just means that they were the better man today. My team at 3Band MMA and I will break down this match and make the proper changes for my next camp.'.
