PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dwight Schrute (ranked 5071 p4p, 353 weight class) and Dontae Shraeder (ranked 5819 p4p, 376 weight class). The key to victory for Dwight Schrute has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dwight Schrute!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dontae Shraeder!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Ackerman and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schrute connects with a crisp jab.

Schrute throws a looping overhand right but Shraeder ducks down to avoid it.
Shraeder feints the counter takedown.
Schrute scores with a nice head shot.
Schrute looks to throw the jab but Shraeder is out of range.
Schrute lands with a cross.
Shraeder tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Schrute manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Shraeder takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
It looks like Schrute has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Schrute tests Shraeder's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Shraeder shoots in but no luck this time.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Schrute is trying to maintain the position but Shraeder is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Shraeder takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Shraeder changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Schrute fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Schrute just misses with a punch to the body.
Shraeder changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Schrute scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Shraeder takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
We've been informed that Shraeder has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Shraeder shoots in but no luck this time.
Dwight Schrute has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dontae Shraeder.

Shraeder throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dwight Schrute is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Schrute lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Shraeder tries a head kick but it misses.

Shraeder shoots in but Schrute avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Shraeder's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Schrute connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Shraeder scrambles back to his feet.
Schrute throws a jab but it's blocked by Shraeder.
Shraeder throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Schrute misses with a head kick.
Schrute throws a sloppy head kick and Shraeder moves out of range easily.
Schrute ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shraeder moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Shraeder rushes Schrute and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Shraeder's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Schrute throws a body punch but Shraeder moves out of range.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Schrute enables Shraeder to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Schrute manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shraeder is looking to work some ground and pound but Schrute has wrist control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Shraeder wants to stand up but Schrute is controlling him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Dontae Shraeder showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Shraeder goes for a double leg but Schrute avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Schrute continues to drive forward.

Shraeder changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Schrute tries to avoid it but Shraeder manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Schrute to the ground. Schrute escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Shraeder throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Schrute escapes and throws Shraeder's legs to the side, diving into side control!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shraeder can do anything to dispel that myth.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
