Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Elijah Haley (ranked 25457 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joel Ward (ranked 5304 p4p, 0 weight class). Elijah Haley has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Elijah Haley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joel Ward!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ward shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Haley's guard.

Haley is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ward is holding on to half guard well.
Ward avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Haley.

Ward should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Haley accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Haley is in close to Ward's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Ward escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Haley gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Haley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Haley really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Ward had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Haley defends it easily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Haley is fighting to break Ward's control of his arms but Ward is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Ward feints and as Haley raises his hands in defense, Ward changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Haley has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ward looks winded!
Ward slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Haley connects with a nice short shot to Ward's temple.

Haley tries to bum rush Ward with a series of wild strikes but Ward uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Ward closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ward lands in his opponent's guard.
Haley lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Haley throws a strike but Ward rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Haley is trying to control but can't.
Haley is looking for a sweep. Ward is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Still in half guard, Ward seems content to control.
Elijah Haley overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Haley is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Ward jumps into side control!

A lull in the action here as Ward stalls from top position.

Ward is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Haley knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Ward is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Haley's shoulder. That is not cool.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Haley tries to clinch but Ward moves out of range.
Ward only half commits to the counter leg kick.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ward.
Haley is looking for a sweep.
Ward just content to control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Haley stops Ward from passing to mount.
Haley tries to bench press Ward off him but Ward keeps the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joel Ward showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Joel Ward seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Haley is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Haley is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Haley is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Ward takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Oh Haley is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Ward is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Haley is surviving well by controlling Ward's body position as best he can.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Haley tries to control the position but Ward now has his back.

Ward just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Ward is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Haley knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Haley for a finish.

Well Ward has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
