The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alvez has hold of one of Barrera's legs. Barrera is fighting the takedown attempt but Alvez gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Alvez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Barrera throws a leg kick but Alvez checks it.

Alvez goes for a takedown in the clinch but Barrera prevents it.

Barrera has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Alvez is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Alvez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Alvez shoots in but no luck this time.
Barrera really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Alvez has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA Las Vegas. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Barrera will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Alvez stops Barrera from standing up.

Alvez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Barrera has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alvez has managed to get both his arms back between Barrera's legs - danger averted.
Barrera wants to sweep but no luck.
Alvez postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Alvez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barrera swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Barrera is striking from the bottom but Alvez uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

Alvez scores with a big shot! Barrera's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Barrera! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
