PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Hickings (ranked 2542 p4p, 314 weight class) and Richie Miles (ranked 2649 p4p, 328 weight class). Hickings comes into the arena with Thing - Just loud noises blaring out of the sound system. Miles has chosen You Never Met a Mother Fucker Quite Like Me as his entrance music. Richie Miles has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Charlie Hickings!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Richie Miles!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Decent striking displayed by Hickings there.
Hickings has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Gentlemans Offence and Defense System in the buildup to the fight.
Hickings lands a body shot.
Miles uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hickings.
Hickings scores with a punch to the head.
Hickings thuds his right hand into Miles's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Nice jab there from Hickings.
Hickings moves into range and connects with a jab.
Hickings uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Nice uppercut there from Hickings.
Hickings is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Hickings connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Miles shoots in and bounces Hickings off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Miles trying to control the position from guard on top but Hickings is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Miles postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hickings is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Miles, into his guard.

Hickings will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hickings working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hickings wants to control from the top but Miles keeps moving.
Hickings throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Hickings got a little sloppy there for a moment and Miles has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hickings has managed to get both his arms back between Miles's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hickings avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Hickings controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Hickings throws a big right hand that misses.

Miles escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hickings gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Miles keeping moving, preventing Hickings from controlling successfully.
Hickings tries to free his leg and advance position but Miles is retaining full guard.

Miles has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hickings is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Miles.

Hickings working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The ground and pound from Hickings seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Hickings cracks Miles with a big right hand but Miles just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Miles felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Hickings wants to control but Miles is keeping him busy.
Miles is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Hickings passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Miles!
Miles is desperately trying to improve his position but Hickings has a good base and remains in mount.
Hickings throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Hickings thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Miles's head.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Hickings pushes Miles back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Miles is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Hickings to keep the fight standing.

Hickings doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Hickings is really struggling to control Miles but he's trying to hold on to the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Miles is working for a kimura but Hickings is defending it quite comfortably.
Hickings has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Miles is working away from the top position though.
Hickings is looking for a sweep. Miles is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Miles wants to work for an arm triangle but Hickings is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's time! Hickings's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Miles ducks right into an uppercut from Hickings.

Richie Miles is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Hickings is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Miles can do to turn this around?

Miles shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hickings manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Hickings had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Miles defends it easily.

Hickings is not content to let Miles control the position.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hickings manages to get back to half guard.
Hickings is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hickings is in trouble now - Miles has advanced to mount!
Hickings tries to hold on but Miles postures up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Miles is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Hickings is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Hickings flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Miles anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Hickings and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Miles slips an arm under Hickings chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Miles has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Miles is squeezing on Hickings like an anaconda would it's prey. Hickings fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Richie Miles!
Richie Miles decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
The defeated Charlie Hickings had this to say: 'Y ain't nathing, mate. Got lucky and noothink els. See ja soon reel soon, boi.'.
