Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Renato Laranja (ranked 4306 p4p, 492 weight class) and Hideo Hayashi (ranked 5978 p4p, 578 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Renato Laranja! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hideo Hayashi! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Donald Grub and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Laranja moves into range and clinches up with Hayashi. Hayashi gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hayashi is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Laranja tries to roll over but Hayashi keeps him under control. Hayashi is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Laranja has managed to free his arm - good work. Laranja makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Laranja. Hayashi has gone for a leg lock! Laranja slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hayashi's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Laranja pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hayashi is keeping the position for now. Laranja avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hayashi had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Laranja defends it easily. Laranja pushes down on Hayashi's leg and manages to get into half guard. Hayashi looking for submissions off his back. Laranja is trying to control the action in half guard but Hayashi is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Hayashi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Laranja pulls his head out easily. Hayashi looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Laranja works his way into full mount! Hayashi defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Laranja. Laranja is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Hayashi can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Laranja controlling from mount. Hayashi is desperately trying to improve his position but Laranja has a good base and remains in mount. Hayashi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Laranja. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Laranja manages to capitalize on a mistake by Hayashi to take his back!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hayashi prevents Laranja from getting a body triangle. Hayashi is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Laranja has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Hayashi has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Laranja is cranking Hayashi's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Hayashi! He's tightened the choke and Hayashi is tapping out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Renato Laranja! Renato Laranja spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant. Hideo Hayashi spoke after the fight, saying 'Did I look cool at least? Guys? Guys!?'.
