PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mono Loco (ranked 2330 p4p, 210 weight class) and Min Halloway (ranked 4265 p4p, 328 weight class). Min Halloway will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mono Loco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Min Halloway!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Loco tries to score a power double leg takedown but Halloway sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Loco somewhat.
Halloway lands a jab to the nose.

Halloway gets caught flat footed, as Loco shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Loco in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Loco controlling from the top position.
Halloway wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Halloway being controlled here, momentarily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Halloway dips to his left and cracks Loco with an uppercut!

Loco looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Halloway is looking to control Loco's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Halloway avoid being mounted?
Loco slips a nice elbow through Halloway's hands, connecting with Halloway's forehead.
Halloway is trying to stand back up but Loco is controlling him
Loco throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Loco seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Loco's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Loco is trying to work for a kimura but Halloway is defending well.
Halloway is looking to get back to is feet but Loco passes into side control.

Halloway felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The referee asks Loco politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Loco prefers to stall for the moment though.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
An elbow from Loco crashes against the mat.

Loco is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Halloway is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mono Loco dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Loco shoots for a double leg takedown but Halloway sprawls well. He's pushed Loco's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Loco is trying hard to land a takedown here. Halloway sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Halloway displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Loco looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Halloway is fending him off so far but Loco persists. Nope, Halloway circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mono Loco. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fighters circle momentarily. Halloway darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Loco or perhaps it was just good defense by Halloway, which made it look bad.
Loco ducks right into an uppercut from Halloway.
Halloway lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Loco closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Halloway's guard.

Halloway has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Loco has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Loco looking to throw knees to the head but Halloway is blocking nicely.

Halloway's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Halloway connects with a nice looking jab.
Halloway misses with the combination.
Loco tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Halloway defends well and Loco ends up having to push Halloway into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
And Halloway tries to counter it with a takedown but Loco pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Halloway throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Loco stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Halloway really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Loco. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Loco has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Loco not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Loco darts in looking for a takedown but Halloway gets double underhooks and turns Loco into the cage.

Loco gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Mono Loco is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Halloway scores with a sloppy right hand. Loco should have avoided that one.
Loco takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Nice sprawl there from Halloway as Loco shoots in.
Loco looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Halloway lands a nice shot that snaps Loco's head back.

Halloway cracks Loco with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Halloway looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Loco fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Halloway cracks Loco with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Min Halloway is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Halloway scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Loco looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Halloway feints the counter takedown.
Halloway misses with a few strikes there.
Halloway has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Loco gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Min Halloway showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Loco fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Halloway sprawls well initially but Loco persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Halloway has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Loco is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Halloway has managed to free his arm - good work.
Loco throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Mono Loco overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Loco is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Halloway doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Loco.

Halloway is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Loco not doing much here.
Loco throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Loco thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Halloway's head.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Halloway is trying to stand up here but Loco is controlling him well.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Halloway is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Halloway throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Loco on the side of the head.

Loco drives through with a takedown into guard.

Halloway manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Halloway misses with a double jab.
Halloway throws a body punch but Loco moves out of range.

Loco bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Loco tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Loco has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Loco has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Loco is trying to get an arm triangle but Halloway is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee asks Loco politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Loco prefers to stall for the moment though.
Loco creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Halloway sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Loco in side control, just content to control the action for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Halloway is trying to control Loco's posture but Loco avoids it.
Loco creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Halloway sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Halloway managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Loco.

Halloway is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Loco asserts his dominance and retains side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mono Loco showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Loco has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
