Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Galen Hicks (ranked 8062 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kristoph Jamanca (ranked 4573 p4p, 0 weight class). Kristoph Jamanca will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hicks wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jamanca, who protects the arm well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hicks is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jamanca is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hicks thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Hicks wants to finish this one by submission but Jamanca is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Hicks.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hicks is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jamanca to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jamanca shrugs it off.
Hicks lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
You get the feeling that Jamanca really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Jamanca wants to control but Hicks is having none of it.

Jamanca really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hicks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jamanca reaches up to try and control the position but Hicks seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Jamanca rolls and tries to escape and now Hicks has his back!

Jamanca is looking to get back to his feet here but Hicks is keeping cool and he's managed to take Jamanca's back.

Hicks looking to break Jamanca's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Jamanca remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Hicks will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Hicks is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Jamanca knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Jamanca for a finish.

Hicks is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jamanca can do to turn this around?

Jamanca is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Hicks really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
