PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Marston (ranked 668 p4p, 113 weight class) and Guido Gloom (ranked 298 p4p, 42 weight class). Marston comes into the arena with Bring it on motherfucker blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lucas Marston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 24 - 0, fighting out of London, Guido Gloom!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gloom moves into range and clinches up with Marston.

Gloom turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Marston explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Gloom's coach down at Jed's Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Gloom's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Marston throws a jab when Gloom was well out of range.
Gloom shoots in but no luck this time.

Gloom moves into range and clinches up with Marston.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Marston fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Gloom gets control of Marston's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gloom will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Gloom seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Marston wants to control from the top but Gloom keeps moving.

Gloom has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Marston is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gloom.

Marston wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gloom keeps working.

Gloom is trying to control Marston's posture but Marston avoids it.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Gloom's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Marston is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Gloom gets his way!
Well, with Gloom on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Marston is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

Gloom is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Marston defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Marston is looking to control Gloom's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Marston avoid being mounted?

A close round but Guido Gloom will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Gloom closes the distance and clinches.
Marston tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Gloom is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Gloom misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Marston prevents a body shot from Gloom.

Gloom goes for a takedown attempt but Marston pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gloom misses with a series of wild punches.
It looked like Marston was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Gloom.
Gloom throws a sloppy body shot
and Marston makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Gloom misses with a straight left.
Marston throws a sloppy head kick and Gloom moves out of range easily.
Gloom is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Gloom scores with a jab to the body.
Gloom throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Marston's corner calls for a 1-2. Marston obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Gloom tries to close the distance and clinch but Marston swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gloom just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromMarston.

and Marston counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

A looping hook to the body misses from Gloom. Marston does a little dance to reset his feet.
We've been told by Marston's head coaches at Kaptajnernes Træningscenter that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Gloom throws a hook but Marston blocks it.
Marston tries a head kick but it misses.
Gloom pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Gloom moves out of range as Marston strikes.
Gloom has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Gloom there as he acknowledges the shot.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A telegraphed right hand from Marston misses the target.
Marston blocks a leg kick.
Marston half committed to a counter leg kick.
Gloom looks to land a left hand but Marston moved out of range nicely.
Gloom throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Gloom throws a lazy head kick
and Marston counters with a straight right hand.
Gloom throws a poor cross that misses
and Marston counters with a good low kick that Gloom was not able to check.
Gloom throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Marston missing with a left hand there. Gloom was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Lucas Marston is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Marston misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A punch lands to the side of Gloom 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Marston goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Marston looks to land a left hand but Gloom moved out of range nicely.
Gloom feints the counter takedown.
Marston connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Gloom momentarily.
Gloom tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Marston manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Marston misses with a wild combination.
Marston throws a one two combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lucas Marston dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Gloom uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Marston.
Marston misses with a body shot.
Gloom drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Marston defends it well.
Marston throws a shot from downtown. Gloom moves away and avoids it.
Gloom is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Marston lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Gloom looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Gloom shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Marston napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Gloom thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Marston's head.
Marston tries to roll over but Gloom keeps him under control.
Gloom throwing shots but Marston is blocking nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gloom wants to lay and pray for a moment but Marston keeps working.
Gloom is looking to stall here but Marston recovers full guard.
Gloom trying to control but Marston is working from the bottom.
Marston wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gloom postures up.
Gloom wants to pass the guard but Marston is keeping the position.
Marston seems keen to control Gloom's posture.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Gloom looking to improve position, pressing down on Marston's thigh with his hand. Marston seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Gloom paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Gloom's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Marston picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Lucas Marston!
