And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Irshaad Sayed!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sayed throws a body punch but Alvarez moves out of range.
Sayed misses with a body punch
and Alvarez counters with a series of strikes. Sayed will be more careful next time no doubt.
Sayed paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Sayed scores with a jab to the head.
Sayed tries a head kick but it misses.
Alvarez throwing a counter right hand but Sayed manages to avoid it.
Alvarez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sayed circles away.
Alvarez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sayed sprawls well. Sayed wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alvarez gets slowly back to his feet.
Sayed scores with a body shot.
Sayed tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Alvarez was well out of range. Poor timing from Sayed.
An attempted straight right counter from Alvarez misses the target.
Sayed looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Sayed connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Alvarez takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Alvarez throws a body shot but no joy.
Sayed keeps Alvarez at a distance using the push kick.
Alvarez avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Sayed throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Sayed on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Sayed dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
No luck for Alvarez with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricardo Alvarez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sayed thuds his shin into the meat of Alvarez's side.
Alvarez lands with a right hand.
Sayed defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Alvarez.
Sayed throws out a counter right but Alvarez avoids it with no problem.
Alvarez misses with a series of wild punches.

Irshaad Sayed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alvarez uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Sayed.
Sayed pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Sayed lands a lovely overhand right.

enabling Alvarez to counter with a crisp jab.
Irshaad Sayed is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A head kick misses from Sayed.
A quick step to the side and Alvarez tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Alvarez bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Nice defenses there by Alvarez.
Alvarez connects with a single shot there.
Alvarez shoots in for a takedown but Sayed shows good takedown defense.

Sayed fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Alvarez, pushing him back against the cage.
A nice right hand lands inside from Sayed.
Alvarez is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sayed pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Sayed misses with some punches.

Alvarez gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Sayed pushes Alvarez off and gets back to his feet.
Donk. Sayed catches Alvarez right on the button with a cross.
Alvarez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Sayed throws a jab when Alvarez was well out of range.
Sayed uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Alvarez.

Sayed misses with a hook. Alvarez ducked under it nicely.
Sayed swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Alvarez works over Sayed's head and body with a nice combination.


It looks like Irshaad Sayed has been cut.
Alvarez takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Alvarez throws a lazy right hand but Sayed sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Alvarez thows a left - swing and a miss!
Alvarez on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Sayed goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Alvarez moves into range and connects with a jab.

Alvarez manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sayed on his heels. He'll look to pass Sayed's guard now, I'm sure.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sayed looking to hit a scissor sweep but Alvarez is one step ahead there.
Alvarez passes into half guard.
Sayed is looking to control Alvarez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sayed avoid being mounted?
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sayed can do anything to dispel that myth.

Alvarez seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Sayed is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ricardo Alvarez decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
