Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Victor Ulriksen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Oleg Nemkov! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ulriksen gets caught napping as Nemkov dives in and scores a takedown. Ulriksen manages to retain guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Nemkov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Ulriksen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Nemkov passes easily into side control. Nice work. Nemkov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Nemkov is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ulriksen has escaped the position, nice work there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ulriksen is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Nemkov is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Ulriksen wants to control but Nemkov is having none of it. Ulriksen tries to reverse the position but Nemkov maintains control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nemkov trying to control but Ulriksen is having none of it. Nemkov lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Ulriksen can't escape the position.
Nemkov lands a big shot there that rocks Ulriksen but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ulriksen holds on, trying desperately to control. Nemkov has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Ulriksen is squirming around, avoiding Nemkov's attempts to control the action. Ulriksen tries to strike from the bottom but he's left himself exposed and Nemkov has taken his back. Nemkov has his arm under Ulriksen's chin here. Game over son! Nemkov squeezes tightly and Ulriksen is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Oleg Nemkov! Oleg Nemkov gave a mention to RAGS of a RONIN in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
