The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Tupper shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mankowski's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Mankowski (0) vs (2) Tupper Mankowski escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Tupper gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Mankowski keeping full guard, as Tupper tries to pass. Tupper sitting in guard, not really doing much. Tupper tries to free his leg and advance position but Mankowski is retaining full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tupper wants to control from the top but Mankowski keeps moving. Mankowski is looking for a triangle but Tupper pushes his legs off easily.
Tupper controls from within his opponent's guard. Mankowski has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tupper can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mankowski keeping moving, preventing Tupper from controlling successfully. Tupper works a leg free and moves into half guard. Tupper is looking to take a break and control but Mankowski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Tupper is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mankowski sees it coming and defends easily. Mankowski actively working from the bottom here. Tupper is trying to control the action in half guard but Mankowski is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Tupper wants to pass to mount but Mankowski is defending the position. Tupper passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mankowski! Let's see whether that pays dividends! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
