Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Maximo Ruiz (ranked 7616 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cheddar Bob (ranked 5243 p4p, 0 weight class). Maximo Ruiz has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Maximo Ruiz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cheddar Bob! The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Damien Edna and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ruiz is defended easily by Bob. Bob closes the distance and pushes Ruiz back into the cage. Bob pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Ruiz avoids a punch combination nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bob misses with a takedown attempt and Ruiz counters with a series of strikes. Bob will be more careful next time no doubt. Bob darts in looking for a takedown but Ruiz gets double underhooks and turns Bob into the cage. Ruiz closes the distance and pushes Bob back into the cage. Bob lands a nice uppercut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruiz is struggling to control the position. Bob tries to score a body lock takedown but Ruiz shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Maximo Ruiz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cheddar Bob. Bob breaks the clinch.
Bob will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Bob closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Bob breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Bob looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ruiz is fending him off so far but Bob persists. Nope, Ruiz circles away and we're back to standing. Ruiz goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Bob swats away the attempt to clinch by Ruiz.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bob misses with a takedown attempt - Ruiz sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Ruiz gets in close and instigates a clinch. Ruiz could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Ruiz drags the fight down to the ground.
Ruiz doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Bob postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Bob postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ruiz is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Bob, into his guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Bob trying to control the position from guard on top but Ruiz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bob trying to move into half guard but instead Ruiz has managed to sweep! Bob wants to improve his position but instead Ruiz has moved into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Bob makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bob. Ruiz wants to get up but he can't break Bob's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Bob will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Ruiz preventing the sweep. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ruiz drops back looking for a leg! Bob is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bob manages to kick Ruiz off! Ruiz jumps back into Bob's guard. Ruiz loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Maximo Ruiz dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Bob will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Ruiz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bob pinned against the cage. Bob gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Ruiz stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ruiz wants it to stay on the feet. Ruiz seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Ruiz chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Bob rushes Ruiz and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ruiz goes for a takedown attempt but Bob pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Ruiz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bob as he avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maximo Ruiz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ruiz slaps away a takedown attempt from Bob, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bob looks for a takedown but Ruiz sprawls well. Bob misses with a takedown attempt and Ruiz counters with a series of strikes. The fighters are working up against the cage. Bob manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Bob looking to slow down the pace here. Bob keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Ruiz's efforts to push away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bob tries to pull guard but Ruiz forces him back to his feet, against the cage. This has been an exciting period of action! Ruiz wants a takedown.
Bob is defending well against a takedown attempt. Come on Bob - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Bob has Ruiz pushed against the cage. Bob manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruiz has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bob is proving hard to escape from. Ruiz stops Bob from standing up. Ruiz slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Bob. Ruiz is thwarting Bob's attempts to control the position. Bob moves into full guard.
Bob has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Bob trying to keep a closed guard but Ruiz is proving a slippery customer.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ruiz gets the takedown into side control. Bob bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Cheddar Bob will probably get the nod - 10:9. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Ruiz closes the distance and clinches up with Bob, looking for a takedown. Ruiz pushes Bob against the cage but Bob circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Cheddar Bob seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ruiz lands with a thumping leg kick.
Bob lands a nice looking kick to the body. Ruiz takes a step back to recover. Bob moves into the clinch successfully.

Bob fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Ruiz throws a nice looking combination but Bob bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fight moves into the clinch position. Ruiz lands a takedown into guard.
Bob pushes Ruiz off and scrambles back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Bob shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Bob trying to control the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruiz is controlling Bob's position as best he can from this difficult position. Bob controlling the action here. Ruiz wants to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Bob seems to be working for a kimura but Ruiz defends the submission attempt. Bob is just content to waste time from the top position. Ruiz takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Bob is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Bob fails with a takedown attempt.
And that's the end of the fight! Cheddar Bob comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Bob has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
