Coming up we have a welterweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Billy Vandam (ranked 3355 p4p, 349 weight class) and Andrew Henry (ranked 16519 p4p, 597 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Henry 's choice of entrance music: knuck if you buck . I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Andrew Henry was going to win. Let's see if he was right.
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 3 losses; Billy Vandam! And in the blue corner, fighting out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 20 wins and 8 losses; Andrew Henry ! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Chris Edwards and William Gold.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Henry tries to score a power double leg takedown but Vandam sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Henry somewhat. Vandam seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Vandam shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Vandam (2) vs (0) Henry The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Henry is controlling Vandam's trapped leg to prevent Vandam from advancing to side control. Henry felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Vandam wants to pass the guard but Henry is defending well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Henry is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Vandam wants to lay and pray for a moment but Henry keeps working. Vandam trying to control the pace.

Henry knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Henry manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Vandam trying to control the pace. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vandam wants to lay and pray for a moment but Henry keeps working. Vandam is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Henry is just riding it out for now. Vandam eventually gives up the hold.

Vandam is fighting to break Henry 's control of his arms but Henry is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Vandam wants to control from the top but Henry keeps moving. Vandam is really struggling to control Henry but he's trying to hold on to the position. Henry is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Henry has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Henry is trying to control the position but Vandam postures up. Vandam is stalling in the full guard. Henry looking to control but Vandam passes into half guard.
Vandam is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Vandam perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

He's managed it. Henry is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Henry is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Vandam is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Vandam tries to free his leg and advance position but Henry is retaining full guard. Henry is pulling down on Vandam's head. It's preventing any offense from Vandam, at least for the moment. Henry looking to control but Vandam passes into half guard.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Henry is concentrating on defense, preventing Vandam from advancing position. Henry tries to roll over but Vandam keeps him under control. Henry has a hand on Vandam's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Vandam takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Vandam takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Henry tries to hold on but Vandam postures up. Vandam jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Henry manages to avoid the submission attempt. You can see the frustration on Henry 's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Henry tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Vandam wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Vandam working away. Vandam trying to control the action but Henry is working from the bottom. Henry is trying to get back to half guard. Vandam taking a breather here. Vandam has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Vandam is looking to take a break and control but Henry is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Henry gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Henry keeping control of the position. Henry wants to improve his position but Vandam is controlling well.

That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Vandam preventing the sweep. Vandam pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Henry is keeping the position for now. Vandam stays in close to Henry 's body and controls the position. Henry working a defensive guard here.
Vandam wants to pass the guard but Henry is keeping the position. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Henry holds on and takes a little breather. Vandam sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Henry 's guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Henry wants to get back to full guard. Vandam content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Henry manages to get to full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Vandam takes the fight on points by 14 to 0. Billy Vandam spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant. |
