Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kaz McStafferson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mickey Flannerry! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, John Mangel and Ben Watson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Flannerry displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McStafferson. Kaz McStafferson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. McStafferson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Flannerry but Flannerry pushes him off and we're back to square one. A little jabbing left from Flannerry on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. McStafferson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Flannerry's guard. McStafferson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Flannerry keeping moving, preventing McStafferson from controlling successfully. McStafferson is pushing down on Flannerry's leg trying to pass to half guard. Flannerry is fighting to maintain full guard but McStafferson has managed to sneak the leg through. McStafferson throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Flannerry to regain full guard. McStafferson wants to pass the guard but Flannerry is keeping the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Flannerry looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Flannerry controlling the position. McStafferson has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. McStafferson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Flannerry manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now McStafferson has Flannerry in his guard.
McStafferson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Flannerry defends well. Flannerry has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing McStafferson to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Flannerry is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - McStafferson pulls down on the head and he's put Flannerry to sleep! This one is all over!
