The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Salvatore stuffs the takedown. Gill closes the distance and clinches. Gill goes for a takedown in the clinch but Salvatore prevents it.
Salvatore has picked Gill up - he's going for a ride! Salvatore dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Salvatore wants to control but Gill is keeping him busy. Gill wants to get back to full guard but Salvatore has passed into side control. Salvatore wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gill, who protects the arm well. Salvatore is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gill is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Salvatore is one step ahead and moves to full mount! But Gill has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Gill!
